Birch Ball Block
2018 Aurifil BOM

2018 Aurifil BOM – February

Scott Hansen from Blue Nickel Studios designed the February block of the month for the 2018 Aurifil Designers based on the woods and travel he has been on recently with his wife. Visit the Auribuzz blog for all the details on the Birch Ball block.

I selected and prepped my fabric for the block just before packing to go to QuiltCon so that when I got home, I’d have something fun to sew together. I stayed with Scott’s suggestion of yellow, and I love the owl print I found to use around the edge of the block. We have screech owls that nest near our home and my husband and I love to hear them when we happen to be on a walk in the evening.

If you are sewing along, each month one person who links up their pieced block wins a 12 large spool kit, and there are usually 25-30 entries. So don’t forget to link up your version with Pat Sloan for your chance to win. The versions already shared this month are lovely!

I think my two blocks coordinate pretty well so far! The next block will be released on March 15th.

I never did get to do my Dresden block. Your two blocks play well together

Thanks for the fun read this morning–both about this block plus the article about Scott. I do believe his sewing room is messier than mine, even with all my QuiltCon stuff everywhere. I do like what you did with your block, and nice to see you are building another collection of beautiful quilt blocks!

  6. Lovely selection of fabrics and I like your colour choices too. I nearly missed the owl, subtle but quite lovely.

  7. I had not noticed the owls in the outer print until you pointed them out. Not very observant, am I!

  8. Kathleen McCormick says:

I love the way your blocks are turning out!

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
