As I mentioned in early November, I am thrilled to be on the 2018 Aurifil Design Team. Each month in 2018, one of the Aurifil Design Team will create and share a unique quilt block based on a theme. The theme for 2018 is “The Places We Go” and the blocks will be inspired by our favorite places. We will be making our blocks using black and white plus one color of our choice.
The interview by Pat Sloan and block for January designed by Katja Marek was released on the Aurifil blog yesterday: Aurifil 2018 January Designer of the Month Katja Marek.
Katja’s latest book is all about Dresdens, and her block design for January is no exception!
Each month one random winner is selected to receive a 12 spool BOX of Aurifil thread for just making the challenge block and sharing it. All details for how to make Katja’s block and how to enter to win a large spool box of Aurifil thread can be found on Aurifil’s Auribuzz blog.
I am going to consider my fabric selections. I have a very busy few months ahead of me, and perhaps having this block ready for some hand sewing in the down moments will be just the ticket.
Are you going to sew along this year?

I saw this block on IG, and it’s yummy! I totally don’t need another project, but I may have to reevalutate! 🙂
Like Audrey, I am loving this block and have little time for it. Definitely downloading and may put a kit together one day.
Although it’s not real orange that I love, this caught my eye. Might have to sew along. ☺
It is a lovely example of a Dresden block and very tempting. I’m not usually an orange kind of person but they are beautiful shades and perfect choices for the design.
I check out the designer blocks, read about the designer and save the blocks for future use. I may want to do since it just started. Do you know how large the blocks will be?
I really love this block, and I have Katja’s earlier book. I was thinking of making a Dresden plate hot pad, but I really am trying to focus on finishing a few more things before I start much new. 🙁
