Last year, The Modern Quilt Guild announced they were accepting submissions of quilts for consideration in an upcoming book they were curating to celebrate the best modern quilts and quilters of the past decade. All quilts that had been previously accepted to QuiltCon were automatically put into their pool of submissions. After some thought about if I had anything else I could submit, I realized that my quilts that had to that point been accepted to show at QuiltCon (Triangle Transparency, Sunburst, and Beacon) were my best work, so I didn’t submit any additional quilts for consideration. When I was contacted not once, but twice, about having quilts selected I was extremely honored by the opportunity!
Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century is a beautiful coffee table book presented in hard cover with images of over 200 modern quilts.
I first heard about The Modern Quilt Guild when my mom asked me to go to this new quilt show in Austin, Texas, she had heard about in 2013: QuiltCon. Having lived (and being married) in downtown Austin for the first few years after I graduated from college, it was a fun location to go hang out with my mom for a weekend. The quilts I saw on display moved and excited me in a way that I didn’t fully understand would influence my future so much at the time. In particular, Jacquie Gering‘s Bang quilt and Chawne Kimber‘s Give a F*ck quilt grabbed me and had me standing in front of them for long stretches at a time. I know strong language isn’t for everyone, but hang with me for a moment. My last name is Fuchs. You have to learn to roll with the screw ups with a last name like mine.

Sunburst
To date, I am very lucky to be able to say I have been to every QuiltCon that has been held. The first quilt that I made and knew would be going to show at QuiltCon was Sunburst, and what an amazing journey this quilt has been on! I submitted Sunburst for consideration for the 2016 QuiltCon Magazine. When it was accepted, that automatically made it eligible to show at QuiltCon as long as I submitted the entry paperwork (and fee) as well. I later learned that it was the cover quilt for the magazine. Wow! Since then, Sunburst has shown at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, been part of the Modern Quilts display at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, and besides being a part of Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century, it will also be part of the Modern Quilts Traveling Exhibit that starts later this year!

Beacon
I am also very honored that Beacon is included in the book. As I mentioned in my recap post about my reflections on the 2017 QuiltCon, it may not be obvious, but Beacon is about processing difficult emotions and memories. Beyond being one of my more personal and emotionally important quilts that I have made, the photograph I captured of Beacon (above) caught the eye of the pattern buyer for Brewer and is what launched me into printing my patterns.
It is an honor to have two of my quilts selected to be in Modern Quilts, and below is a short list of some of the other amazing quilters who have their work also included in the book. Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century is available for purchase now!

Congratulations Yvonne. Wonderful quilts and well deserved recognition.
Congratulations! That “F*ck you cancer” quilt in one of your links made me cry. I had a friend who would have loved it so very much.
Congratulations on having two of your lovely quilts in the new book. Your photo of Beacon has been a favorite if mine. I am really enjoying turning the pages of the book and studying them at my leisure. Good job of putting the links to all the previous posts on the blog hop. That will make it easier for folks, especially since this is such an extended hop.
Pretty cool! Congratulations!
Big congrats, Yvonne! You are in such good company.
Congratulations Yvonne! I’m glad to be in such company as you. Hoping to get my hands on the book really soon.

Congrats, Yvonne. Sunburst and Beacon are works of art!
I pre-ordered the book as soon as I heard about it. It was a nice New Year gift to myself. I love this book – every quilt in it as well as the history of the MQ movement.
How exciting! Well done!! Do you have your own copy of the book yet?
These two quilts are truly works of art. I love both of them for different reasons. Sunburst speaks to me in your use of color and transparency. Just stunning. I love Beacon as I think of lighthouses as very important to navigating the waters – calm or stormy. Congratulations!
Congratulations Yvonne! These are both great quilts! I’ve never thought about problems with the pronunciation of your last name! Do people just kind of hesitate before launching into it?
Congratulations to you in having not just one but two quilts accepted for this . That is really a great achievement for you . And on a lighter note , I’m sure st times yiur husband must have hated his surname when young
Congrats!!! I’m so happy for you to have two beautiful quilts in the book. Well deserved. Sunburst has always been one of my favorites
