Community Roundup

The Ventura MQG is requesting charity blocks to be made to help the victims of the Thomas Fire in Ventura County. The block design is the Perkiomen Valley Block, designed by Scott Griffin, the guild’s vice president. Members of the Ventura MQG are assembling and finishing quilts for fire victims as they receive blocks, and they would like to receive enough materials to make at least 50 quilts. They are also accepting quilt tops, finished quilts and quilt supplies.

This fire is about an hour drive south of me, and we are being affected by the smoke that has to go somewhere. I will be making blocks over the next week or two to send.

Information and questions can be directed to communications@venturamodernquiltguild.com. The block pattern and instructions are available on their website.

My lovely friend Jess from Quilty Habit shared a post yesterday about the Modern Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) Quilt Along with the Central Jersey Modern Quilt Guild, and I wanted to share those details. I have seen many people in the #2018PlanningParty express a desire to explore Free Motion Quilting more, so this could be the QAL for you!

Find out all the details about the CJMQG FMQ QAL on the CJMQG website!

  1. Oh, that’s great (about the planning party and people looking for FMQ)! I hope people will join us! Thanks for spreading the word about things going on in our community, Yvonne. You are the best!

My husband’s cousin and boyfriend lost their home in the Thomas fire. I just learned of the “Quilts for Ventura” project yesterday on Instagram, and I’m hoping to get started today! I plan to make whole quilts, and I’d love to finish before Christmas, but that might be a little too ambitious – even for me! Ha!

  4. I am happy to make a few blocks – probably next week after the holidays calm down. Thank you for posting this Yvonne!

Hello Yvonne; You are such an amazing person with the heart of gold! You are always sharing and participating in important community quilting special events that are aimed at helping someone or a lot of people. Thank you for sharing the information with us because there are some of us who do not own a television or get the newspaper and so forth (like me) and so finding information such as this really helps. So….I will make some blocks as soon as I can and send them on their way. Have a great day, Yvonne!

Yvonne, I was going to finish up a couple of quilt tops but the blocks are more important. I’ll try to get a bunch knocked out and mailed down by the end of next week. Prayers to all that lost so very much.

Thank You Yvonne for posting the info about the blocks for Ventura MQG! ValleyMQG and LAMQG are also helping our neighbor MQG. So many homes were lost in this fire.
