December Patreon Mini Mini Quilts

For December, I have three of my Patreon’s unlock rewards. Two of the three are receiving a mini mini quilt reward. I like to check in with the individual to see if they have any specific requests or preferences, and I do my best to incorporate those into what I create.

Sarah from Smiles Too Loudly simply requested that I make something that brings me joy. One of the things that brings me joy is thinking about the person I am creating for, and I know that Sarah loves yellow, so I figured that was a good place to start.

I decided to go with a bit of improv piecing and I was thinking about how quilting is so grounding, and provides a sense of direction. So the piecing took on a bit of a flying geese pattern as a result of those thoughts. And then I had a lot of fun with the micro quilting to give the mini mini quilt some detail.

The Joy mini mini quilt finishes at 3-inches wide by 7-inches long. Looking at the mini mini quilt after the fact, I like how it can be rotated in any direction and create a different feeling and evoke different thoughts for me in each orientation. It seems a bit like a person on tip toes or like airfoil shapes in the wind…

Winter Solstice Mini Mini Quilt

Winter Solstice Mini Mini Quilt

Rose from Something Rose Made said that she enjoys my transparency and also suggested perhaps “solstice” as a theme idea. Since we are approaching the winter solstice, I thought that focusing on the sun glowing in the sky against a snowy scene would be the way to go for her mini mini quilt.

I did a lot of tiny improv piecing to create the sun and then expanded the pieces out to create a sky and winter slope scene. Quilting is a bit more minimal on this mini mini quilt, but to emphasize the winter aspect, I added in a bare tree shadowed and glowing in the sunlight.

Choosing the binding to finish the Winter Solstice mini mini quilt took a few iterations and auditions before I settled on this rich purple to frame the scene. The mini mini quilt finished at 6-inches square.

Both mini mini quilts are shipped an on their way, and I hope that these tiny tokens share my deep appreciation with them for their support.

Linking up with Finish it Friday.

Yvonne, I really love the winter scene. The colors and quilting, everything just works so well together. A work of art! X

  11. Laura M says:

Yvonne, the Winter solstice mini is fabulous. The combination of the layering effect in the sun and the thread painted tree are so effective. It’s so well visually balanced and ones eye moves between the sun and the tree. I don’t often see those within the modern quilting world adding something that is thread painted. So so effective. I’d love to see more of these. A series perhaps? Kudos.
