Quilt Pattern

Spring Growth Pattern Release

I am excited to share that my pattern, Spring Growth, which originally appeared in Love, Patchwork & Quilting Issue 45, is now available for sale! Spring Growth is a modern, graphic quilt designed for maximum visual impact that finishes as a large lap quilt at 60″ by 72″.

Spring Growth was inspired in both design and color palette by a photograph of a finch. In the photo, the finch’s dark eye is surrounded by a pop of orange and a dusty gray body and background. Birds are one of the first signs of spring in my area, so I chose to back and bind the quilt in green as a promise of the growth ahead.

Included in the pattern is a coloring page to help you plan your quilt design and perhaps even audition quilting motifs. There is ample room to play with some fun quilting in the negative space. Straight line quilting to enhance and echo the pieced shapes would work beautifully, too.

The pattern contains tips for piecing precision. I am really looking forward to see how others interpret and use this design!

You know, before I knew what this quilt was based on I thought it was a bird or possibly a bee. Beautiful quilt

  5. This is such a pretty design, Yvonne. My daughter has loved birds since she was little, and is now a bioiogical technician doing field research with birds. She is currently in grad school in Florida. That being said, your finch story and the resulting quilt speak to me quite a bit! I think the binding and backing is just right, and a great idea!

Gorgeous design Yvonne! I just love quilt with lots of negative space – it’s like a blank page you can use to “draw” a bunch of fun quilting designs.

  20. Congratulations. You have been very productive in creating new patterns this year. I didn’t feel like sewing earlier this week so I cut my strips to make Digital Wave. Hoping to get working on it before the end of the year.
