Savannah’s Star

I am having fun this week doing a bit of pattern testing for Nicole @pinwheelsandpancakes and the Quilter’s Planner making Nicole’s Savannah’s Star pattern using Alison Glass Sun Prints.

From left to right, I’m working with Overgrown in Amaranth, Meadow in Tide (which is also the cover print for the 2018 Quilter’s Planner!), Link in Yonder, and Overgrown in Cloud.

The Savannah’s Star quilt top finished at 40.5-inches square, and I’m hoping to have a finish to share with you really soon, too.

I just wrapped up some secret sewing, so it’s really fun to have a project to share with you this week. I am also taking an online class this fall (the first class I’ve paid for / studied for since graduating college 15 years ago…), and my mornings are fuller than normal for me as I try to juggle everything. What are you working on this week? Are you trying something new this fall?

  1. The block and fabrics look just wonderful Yvonne. This week I’m following a free online class all about using Pinterest to drive more ‘traffic’ to blogs and websites. Incidentally, isn’t that term ‘traffic’ horrible? We are talking about people not vehicles! A bit like calling hospital patients ‘end users’! Uggh!

Love those colors. I am recovering from knee replacement surgery so just working on some cross stitch ornaments and some hexies. It will be a little while before I can get to my sewing room.

I love Savannah’s star! I think you are a master at choosing fabrics! Good luck with your class and all of the many things you do. I’m not sure how you get it all in.

This is such a cool block! I’m getting back into my schedule after being on vacation for 5 days! I am also working on re-prioritizing some of my volunteer activities. 🙂

I’m trying something new this fall. I joined a local book club that was formed in 2007 and meets monthly. My first attended meeting was last month and what a blast!

Love that Savannah star! I’m trying a couple of new things this fall: Fabri Flair Wall Art Stars, Ribbon Stars by Poorhouse Quilt Designs and taking classes this weekend on Creative Grids rulers and Pieced Applique by Penny Haren.

Hello Yvonne! Sorry that I am so late on posting, but life just keeps getting in my way. Which in reality is just fine, I just do not like missing my favorite bloggers posts. This is a beautiful quilt, the fabrics that you chose to use are magnificent. I sure wish that I had your gift with choosing fabrics. I do not do badly but always want to improve. Is there anyway to get this pattern? I would like to make some lap quilts for the Nursing Homes in our area and this would be so beautiful. As per your question, yes, this fall I am learning to hand applique using an Orange Peel template and pattern I found in a quilters magazine. I was messing up terribly with the stitching. So I found a video by Erin Russett and watched it and she did a wonderful job of showing how to do the stitch correctly. Have a great day!

  16. What a beautiful block. I really like the colors you chose.
