The Wayward Transparency Quilt Along officially started yesterday (September 15th) with the posting of planning and fabric requirements. For anyone looking for inspiration or a bit of help picking out and/or purchasing fabric for the mystery quilt, below are some options and discounts!
A quick note about the renderings I am presenting here: online graphics and thumbnails of fabric swatches are great tools but they are not always 100% accurate representations of how the fabrics would look together. I will present the renderings for the 2 finished Wayward Transparency quilts beside the finishes so you can see the difference between a rendering and a real, finished quilt. For the Kona Cotton options, I used my Kona Cotton color card and verified that the colors go well together.
BackSide Fabrics is offering the one time use coupon code BACKSIDEJETGIRL17 for 10% off your next order. If you love wide quilt backings, this is an excellent opportunity for you to consider ordering some for the Wayward Transparency Quilt Along.
I used 3 yards of Ombre Scroll in Marine for the backing of the first Wayward Transparency quilt. I used 3 yards of the wide backing so that I could rotate the 68-inch on point version of Wayward Transparency 45-degrees when I loaded the quilt top on my long arm. That allowed me to quilt a crosshatch across the quilt top that ended up at a 45-degree angle. If you just baste the quilt normally, 2 yards of a wide backing will be enough for a backing with no seams.
Honey, Bunny, and Doll
The Honey, Bunny, and Doll Etsy store is offering 4 colorway options for the quilt along! Pricing for the solid Kona cotton fabric kits (5.25 yards) is $32 + flat rate shipping. Pricing for the Batik kit (5.25 yards) is $43 + flat rate shipping. The Honey, Bunny, and Doll kit fulfills the fabric requirements for the on point version of the quilt. Please note that the kit contains only the fabric for the quilt top.
Renderings of the Wayward Transparency design in the 4 colorways are below.
Designs by Sarah J
As you probably saw on Thursday, I created a version of Wayward Transparency using prints by Sarah J. Sarah is offering several Wayward Transparency quilt kits in her online store using her prints. Through September 30th (9/30/17), Sarah is offering a 15% discount for the quilt top with binding included. The kit would normally retail for $64.60, and with the discount, the price drops to $54.95.

Below are some curated shopping lists for fabric options from the Fat Quarter Shop. A little different than a kit, if you like any of the Fat Quarter Shop fabric combinations presented below, simply click on each fabric link and add the amount of yardage listed in the fabric requirements to your online shopping cart. And I am really excited about this last grouping. Here I show how to transition around the color wheel instead of staying within one color for the quilt. In this case the colors either go from red to orange or orange to red. Kona Orange (light), Kona Flame (medium), Kona Chinese Red (dark) **UPDATE 9/18/17** Kona Orange seems to be sold out on FQS. Below I present a substitution for Kona Orange.
Kona Persimmon (light), Kona Flame (medium), Kona Chinese Red (dark) ***UPDATE 9/20/17** Kona Flame seems to be sold out on FQS now as well. At this point I would suggest sticking with the original color grouping and shopping for this color grouping at a different online retailer, like Stash Fabrics.
Have fun gathering your fabrics, and I look forward to seeing your selections in out Facebook Group!
