Wayward Transparency Quilt Along {Quilt Reveal, Schedule, Sponsors and Prizes!}

I am super excited today to share lots and lots of details about the upcoming Wayward Transparency Quilt Along with you! There are a lot of details packed into this one post.

First, it is my pleasure to show you my first finished version of Wayward Transparency.

Wayward Transparency

Wayward Transparency

I used Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton in Pond (lightest), Cypress, and Bluegrass (darkest) to piece the quilt top. I have been itching to load a quilt top at a 45-degree angle on my long arm for some straight line quilting and I finally gave it a try with this quilt because I used a wide quilt backing (Ombre Scroll in Marine from BackSide Fabrics) which allowed me ample room to turn the quilt top as I pleased!

Wayward Transparency - Detail

Wayward Transparency – Detail

I pieced and quilted Wayward Transparency using 50wt Aurifil 1148 (Light Jade). The thread color is the perfect shade that splits the difference in colors in the quilt top and the quilt backing.

This is the On Point version of Wayward Transparency and it finishes at 68-inches square.

If you are not interested in creating an on point version during the quilt along, no worries! The quilt along also offers fabric yardage and instructions for creating a traditional setting of the design that finishes at 48-inches square. And if you are feeling indecisive? Just purchase the yardage for the On Point version and decide later if you will go with the Traditional or On Point version.

Pretty exciting! I love it! I should at least be able to get it started, but I migrate south in November and will miss a month of sewing. Looking forward to it!

    1. Thank you, KaHolly, for telling me about this! I’m on board too!

  2. I love this qulit, Yvonne! I love the fabrics you chose, the thread and the quilting you went with! So cool that you got to try loading a quilt on the 45 degree angle – the quilting looks amazing! And I bet it feels even better 😉

  3. It looks like such a great quilt-along. I don’t know yet if I can participate, but I’m definitely considering it. Take care, Mary.

Wow. The quilt is just stunning! I’m looking forward to this QAL and can’t wait to pick out fabrics.

  11. I’m very much looking forward to participating in this, Yvonne, as I have had a long-time fascination with transparency and no clear understanding of it to make it work in my designs. While it would be easiest to choose three solids, using prints sounds very intriguing too! I intend mine version to be a stash-buster. September 15 can’t arrive soon enough. Thank you for doing this!

  12. aquilterstable says:

Pretty cool! I’ve always loved, and been impressed with, your transparency quilts!

  13. Helen says:

No questions as yet, sensible or otherwise . This looks fun , as always your designs are very refreshing and uncluttered . I’m looking forward to taking part in this

  14. Stephanie says:

Beautiful! I’m so busy in September, I was pleased to see this actually starts in October!

  15. Claudia says:

That quilt is so pretty! I really want to join in the fun and I am going to try, and hopefully life isn’t going to get in the way! (I have a lot of changes happening as this starts) My mind was wandering through all the different colors this would look luscious in!

  16. This is a stunning quilt. Can’t wait to start picking fabrics! I also loved your Fresh Quilting segment on picking print fabric for transparency.

  17. I would LOVE to join in, but I can’t, sad! I will be following though and should be able start it end of the year.

  18. wannajava says:

I would love to have a peek at this quilt in prints. Looking forward to see how to pick fabric for transparency.

Oh dear Yvonne, I was trying to resist taking on any other new projects this year, hoping to actually finish some of my WIPs. I even said no to The GypsyWife QAL and that was so hard for me, especially since it’s been on my ‘to make’ list forever and I actually own the pattern. But I can’t resist making a transparency quilt with YOU. So, I’ve written your schedule down in my Quilter’s Planner and I’ll definitely be sewing along!

  20. I’m in the QAL. Hugh might just have a bit less personal care time!!!

  21. cblanco46 says:

Love this quilt. Hoping to make the time to follow along. Gorgeous

  22. Omg! It’s à beautiful modern quilt! Very interesting QAL!

  23. jayne says:

You did it! What a beautiful design Yvonne! I’m hoping I’ll be able to join in the fun with this QAL! I love the colors you picked….you are good….so good!

  24. Paula S. Pike says:

Yvonne, I’m so excited for your QAL. I love the 45 degree angle on the quilting, it just adds to the design. I’m crazy, I admit it but I MUST make this quilt. I love the colors your showing it in but will wait to see some of your other suggestions.

  25. I can’t wait to play along. But now I have to decide on a layout — you blew my mind offering other layouts LOL. But I think I’m leaning toward the original On Point layout.

  26. Transparency quilts amaze me… this one is no exception! If only I had time for every QAL that catches my eye! Thanks for linking up with TGIFF @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge!

  27. LOVE how you quilted this! It almost looks like it shimmers. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone makes. 🙂

  28. Lisa says:

I’m looking forward to all the learning about transparencies that will happen with this quilt along.

  29. Diane M says:

I’ve never participated in a QAL but this one is hard to resist.

  30. Christine S says:

I really want to join this one! Fingers crossed 🙂

  31. I love all of your transparency work.
The setting options make my eyes see blurry! Yet another fun optical illusion.
I never thought about how you would have to load a quilt on the long-arm on point to get diagonal lines. Hmmm. Clever.

  32. Ruth says:

Loving the idea of this one – thanks a million for this!

  33. Kathy Slaughter Cummings says:

I may have missed something…is the quiltalong free?
I love your quilts and your colors!!
    Thank you.

  34. sue7oaks says:

I’ve spent the weekend rummaging around in my stash and emerged with fabrics that I hope will be successful for this project. I can’t wait to get started now – plenty to do till then…

  35. Beautiful colors and quilting, Yvonne! Looking forward to the QAL!

  36. Annette says:

I am so in! This is something I’ve been wanting to try and I’m so excited!

  37. Michelle Johnston says:

Ooh…looks fun! Will try to play along!

  38. Hoping to join you in this one Yvonne! The schedule looks very do-able, thank you! You know how I love shadow quilts, and your transparency ones are a close second! Love love the colour palette of this first one.

  39. Thx for the detailed plan and ample notice, Yvonne. Your quilt is beautiful in those serene blue-greens, but I look forward to seeing what palettes the QAL participants come up with, too! : )

  40. I’m excited about the Transparency, but when I tried several times to follow by email I kept getting an error message. Can this be fixed?

  41. Awesome looking quilt!!!! Love the transparency look!

  42. Brandy says:

I participated last year so I’m all in. Can’t wait to get started!! Thank you for all you do to make it possible.

  43. TinaC says:

This looks like fun….I will be participating!

  44. Kellie Warren says:

Was something going to be emailed to us? I received no email. I wanted to do mine on point and was wondering how much fabric to order.

    1. Hello Kellie,

As I mentioned in this post, the instruction posts will contain the monthly piecing instructions as well as a link to an easily printable pdf that you can print and download. The pdf’s will be available until the prize winners are announced in early February and then a pdf of the full pattern will be available for sale (but the instructions will always remain in the blog posts).

PDF instructions will not be sent out via e-mail. Instead, the pdf’s of the instructions will be easily downloadable directly from the blog posts.

To get the instructions, you will need to follow my blog. You can download PDFs during the quilt along within each new post. The fabric requirements can be found here (and there is a link to download the PDF within the post):
