You may remember that I quilted a Cascade quilt pieced by a local friend back in April. Well, she was happy enough with how the first quilt came together that she brought me a second quilt to quilt for her a week ago, a Northern Lights quilt (pattern by Jaybird Quilts)!
I took a “before” photo this time; it is always fun to have a reference to see how quilting can change a quilt.
As you can see, I quilted an all over pattern. From a distance, it adds a nice texture, I think.
Up close you can see that I used a pointed meander in a darker thread (50wt Aurifil 2885 – Medium Spruce – which blends with the darkest green in the quilt which is also the backing fabric). It’s nice to show the perspective that even though the thread is high contrast, it is not what stands out when viewing the quilt as a whole (at least, to me it doesn’t)!
My friend plans to bind the quilt in the excess dark green backing fabric, which I think will frame it in beautifully! I’m so glad she trusted me to quilt another quilt for her. It was an enjoyable project for me to focus on last week.
