Welcome to the last stop on the Springtime Blog Hop Celebration of Bernie from Needle and Foot‘s new venture into selling fabric in her Etsy shop!
In December, my online friend and fellow Californian, Bernie reached out to me to let me know she was expanding her Etsy shop to carry fabric. I was excited to hear of her growth and expansion plans, and I was thrilled she asked me to help her spread the word of this new venture.
Bernie is generously offering a giveaway so that one lucky reader can win either 6 fat quarters or 3 half-yard cuts of fabric: read on to find out how to enter! In addition to the giveaway at the end of this post, Bernie is offering everyone a coupon code to her Etsy shop: use the code NANDFREADERS15 for 15% off any order over $5.00, active through Sunday, March 26th.
Bernie supplied me with an Alison Glass fat quarter bundle from her shop. It includes Stitched in Violet, Renewal in Opal, Numbered in Grasshopper, Numbered in Peacock, Rising in Snow, and Sunshine in Lichen. I quickly went to work coming up with a way to maximize each fat quarter in a quilt top.
I complimented the Alison Glass prints with a healthy dose of Kona White. I call the quilt the Sprig Quilt because the variation of small and large blocks remind me of the growth pattern of bamboo and other fresh, new grass sprigs in spring.
I finished the quilt with another Alison Glass print I had in my stash – Sphere in Orchid.
To continue the theme of the quilt design, I chose to do a meandering swirling vine quilting motif. It was a fun pattern to quilt and I found myself enjoying the back and forth / in and out rhythm of quilting. I used 50wt Aurifil thread in 2021 (Natural White).
The backing for this quilt is Tula Pink’s Tortoise print from the Slow and Steady line that my friend Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs graciously shipped to me. Don’t the colors compliment the top perfectly? I used Quilter’s Dream Green batting.

Very pretty!
Yvonne, you are inspiring me to break into my Alison Glass stash, and I’m really leaning toward combining it with white. I’ve been reluctant to do so because all the people in my life (including me!) aren’t the cleanest folks! Have a great day, Mary.
