Meadow Mystery Quilt Finish

Even with all the rest (aka naps), fluids, and “taking it easy” that I prioritized this week, I was able to piece together, quilt, and finish my Meadow Mystery Quilt this week. Each year, Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs hosts an amazing mystery quilt along, and I am really happy with how my quilt came together this year.

I was a bit nervous about the Kona Coal as my secondary background color, but it was all just a fear in my head. As soon as I put arranged the blocks on my design wall I knew that this was going to be a fast finish because I was so happy with how it looked! I have 3 solids in this quilt top: Kona White, Coal, and Oasis balanced with a bit of Lizzy House (Silver on Black Constellations) and Tula Pink (Mosaic in Glacier).

We don’t have any meadows with an abundance of wildflowers just yet, but I had to get a photograph of the quilt on some green grass at least. 🙂 I loosely quilted overlapping wavy lines using 50wt Aurifil 2024 (White). I used Quilter’s Dream Orient batting, so overall this quilt has a very soft drape and light loft.

I found a Northcott print at my local quilt store that I knew was going to be perfect as the backing, and I bound the quilt using the last of the Lizzy House Constellations in Silver on Black (which is also found in the quilt top).

Cheryl will be holding a parade of quilt finishes for the Meadow Mystery quilt in early April, and I am looking forward to seeing the wide variety of quilts made using her pattern.

I really like Kona coal and am using it and charcoal more and more. Turned out really well in your quilt, frames the design nicely.

  4. Cindy says:

Your version turned out great. I like how the coal and the constellation fabrics frame everything.

  5. Beautiful! I love the combination of blues and grays. Your photography is wonderful too.

  6. It’s amazing!! My favorite part is those geese in the corners that are subtle but totally there. They really make the whole quilt. Great choice with the wavy quilting, too – sometimes quilts just need that!

What a gorgeous quilt!! Your color selection was fabulous, and that final photo is perrrrfect!! The blue in your quilt matches the blue in the sky so well. Congrats on a fun finish (and I’m amazed that on a restful week you were able to piece quilt and finish a quilt. That would be called a crazy productive MONTH for me! lol) <3

This turned out just gorgeous, Yvonne! I love the backing that you found to use, it really accents the other celestial print that you used. 🙂

Yvonne, once again you’ve designed an incredible quilt. Your talent is amazing. I’m thinking I’m going to have to add this one to my to-do list as well.

I like how your color choices came together so well to create the look of an on-point medallion. Gorgeous! And fatastic photography, as always.

I love the way the center “medallion” pops against the turquoise and coal background. This is a beautiful quilt.

  14. Wow, Yvonne, this is just gorgeous! And the photographs are amazing. Great job.

  15. The grey at the corners makes the other blocks really stand out, and what a photo shoot out there. Gorgeous.

The dark secondary border sets it off great. This is such a timely read for me, I’m expecting to start quilting mine next weekend and I was unsure of how to do it. The white seems to work well (mine has a white primary background too). I like the backing you used and the pics as always are stunning, especially with the wonderful setting.

I love the contrasts between the fabrics in this quilt and how different aspects of the design jump out at me each time I look at it. It’s a really good lesson in how value affects the look of a particular color. The white and coal next to the oasis makes the oasis almost look like two different but coordinating blues. The coal may have been a risk for you, but it plays a big roll in the impact of the overall design.

  18. I absolutely love how this turned out. The coal in the corners really makes the white center sparkle. The backing is the perfect finishing touch.

  19. Serena says:

I really love the simple but striking colours you chose for this quilt … I hope you are feeling better and well rested 🙂

  20. Anne says:

  21. Izzy says:

Your quilt turned out gorgeous! I just love the colour and fabric choices. Those small prints work so well with the solids. I finished my top and hope to be able to find the time to quilt and bind it before the parade!

  22. Ben says:

I really like the effect of the two prints mixed with the solids.

  23. Yvonne, this really turned out great! The colors go so well together and I love the way the dark binding frames the whole thing.

  24. Debbie says:

I think your Kona Coal was an inspired choice. Really lovely!

I’ve been admiring how your quilt has taken shape over the past few months and seeing it all come together…just beautiful! Congrats on this finish.

  31. Your color combo is just stunning with her mystery pattern. You couldn’t have planned those colors better if you had known the placement. Beautiful finish!

  32. I think the Coal was the perfect choice! It turned out so beautifully, and I love the wavy line quilting.

  33. It’s a great finish. Well done. I’ve been procrastinating quilting mine because I can’t figure out how to quilt it. If inspiration doesn’t hit soon, it’s going to be an allover stipple or loops. Just need to get it finished.

  34. Beautiful finish and a lovely palette!

  35. Melanie says:

Visiting from the quilt parade: Your quilt looks great. I love the combination of solids with just accent printed fabrics. And you picked yours so well. The backing is also such a nice fabric. And I have to remember your quilting design. I love organic waves but I never tried overlapping them. Thanks for the inspriation 🙂

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
