I have to admit that I came home from QuiltCon and hit the ground running. Sure, I took a nap on Wednesday and another nap on Thursday, but I went straight back to my life routine: going to the gym in the afternoons, general household catch-up, and I jumped in and finished the quilt that I had left for myself to complete as Step 1 on my post-QuiltCon to-do list. On Saturday afternoon and evening, I went to a going away party for friends. My body finally rebelled against the lack of rest and recuperation on Sunday. I have a full blown head cold, I have lost my voice, and I am well and truly going to have to take some R&R this week. I’m not complaining, though; I plan on stocking up on some Vitamin C and good old fashioned rest early this week. I do have some plans for upcoming tutorials that I am excited about, so once I get my voice back we’ll see if my video recording ideas can come together! Yippee!
Did you see Kerry from Penny Dog Patchwork’s Starch Substitute mini tutorial last week? I thought it was a lovely solution! My husband and I are also very scent sensitive, so I appreciated her DIY approach to getting what works best for her.
Kerry’s post also reminded me of the Homemade Spray Starch tutorial shared by Becky from Patchwork Posse. I believe my friend Renee from Quilts of a Feather makes a very similar recipe (if not the exact same) that Becky shares and since I have worked with Renee in the past, I can attest that her blocks are very nice after using the homemade spray starch.
Since I will be taking it a bit easy this week, I am doubly looking forward to living vicariously through you and enjoying the tips and tutorials you have to link up this week!
Our bodies always find a way to tell us ‘enough!’ I hope you get lots of rest and feel better soon. I’ve wanted to try homemade starch for a while – thanks for sharing the links above!
Sorry you’re not feeling well. I came home from QuiltCon with a head cold that turned into a sinus infection, ugh! I’m starting to feel a little better but still taking it slow. I hope you feel better fast 🙂
I hope you feel better soon! My son is still getting over a cold and he went to QuiltCon with me. Usually it’s me with the cold. 🙂 Resting is the hardest part of getting well for me!
Being a nurse, I have to throw in a plug for good old-fashioned chicken soup for your cold. The salty broth soothes the throat, the gentle steam drifting from the soup helps to open up your stuffy head, and it just tastes sooo good! Egg drop soup is a nice substitute as well.
Sorry to hear you’re sick, Yvonne. Hope you get better soon! Thanks for the link to the homemade starch; I’m was just thinking about trying to make my own, so this is timely!
Get well soon! Well that was a weird experience, seeing my own face looking back at me on my blog reader lol
I’m in my 60’s and I still haven’t learned to pace myself! And often end up sick—this is very encouraging is it? Get better soon and as much as I enjoy your posts, I won’t be disappointed if you skip one or two.
Hope you get better soon. Thanks for posting the great tip.
I think everyone I know has been sick with some kind of cold or flu in the last couple of weeks. At least it waited until you were home right? You have the right idea with some rest and relaxation to let your body heal.
I found Kerry’s (Penny Dog Patchwork) starch substitute last week and have been using it ever since. It really works!
I hope you are feeling better soon 😉
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Thanks for sharing the starch links!
UCK! A perfect time to catch up on reading quilting magazines 🙂 Now–go back to bed and throw a quilt over yourself.
I’m also recovering from a cold. Hope you feel better soon!
Hope you are feeling much better. Those head colds are no fun at all.
