Welcome! I have been anticipating my stop on Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Blog Tour and I am so glad you here today. If you are new to my blog, my name is Yvonne and you can read a little bit about me here.
I am so honored that my block, Radiating Star, is included in this issue of 100 Blocks along with so many other designers I admire.
Once again I took an opportunity to play with a feeling of depth in this design by using different values of fabric. I used Modern Solids by Denyse Schmidt for Free Spirit, and to help me determine the fabric I wanted to use, I took of a photo of my initial fabric pull and looked at it in greyscale.
In the end, I decided to use the four solids on the right, leaving out the darkest gray fabric on the left.
What I really love about the Radiating Star block design is the fun secondary pattern that the blocks make when repeated in a quilt top. I got excited about the modern X type lattice that forms behind the stars, and by choosing to have the colors build from light to dark, it feels like the stars are on top and shimmering.

It’s a great block Yvonne. I like that you showed what it would look like in a quilt. I find it difficult with the 100 blocks magazine sometimes to figure out how the blocks would look in a quilt. I’ll have to try and design a block for the magazine.
I prefer Half Yard fabrics! Fat Quarters are my second favorite. Thank you for a chance to win. PS Love those stars! (Huge fan of star blocks).
I love the tiny 2.5″ charm packs. So cute and affordable, but I haven’t found the perfect pattern, yet.
Well done, love the block! My favorite precut is the charm squares. Even on a limited budget I can get the whole collection!
I really like this block – very pretty. I love finding new ways to do stars.
I love to purchase fat quarters. They are fun just to look at and pet!
a new star! love it. am partial to the six inch strip bundle … I’ve a blue one that’d be perfect for this star.
getting alot of charm squares lately. love seeing new patterns.
Love your block Yvonne 🙂
I love stars! And I love secondary patterns. i love fat quarters, but i’m finding layer cakes are really versatile, too. If there’s a certain line that I fall in love with, I try to get a layer cake, jelly roll, and a yard of a favorite print or two in the line to coordinate for border or accents.

Hi pretty blues Your comment form still tells me that this form is not secure.
I love your block and can’t wait to see the magazine!
For precuts I mainly buy charm packs. You get a little bit of everything and they are affordable.
A lovely block to make! As for precuts, I use my stash and make up my own precuts when I find a pattern I like!
First I see the stars, then I see the “x”, and the stars disappear. Really neat
The block is great. Would be an awesome use of some fat quarters!
I love stars of all kinds, can’t beat them. I like 2.5 in strips, always looking for a great pattern.
Once again, fantastic pattern, luscious blues (I may even make a quilt from solids one day).
Lately I’ve been buying layer cakes; I have a couple of cute patterns that I’m looking forward to trying out.
I prefer 1/2 yard pieces over fat quarters. Great block!!
Congratulations on having your block included in Quiltmaker’s 100. Makes a beautiful quilt!
Thanks for a chance to win.

Looking good, and I really like your last post quilt, 2 color (forgot name) Very Pretty!
Wow, Yvonne, I especially love the secondary design this creates! Great work.
I absolutely LOVE stars, this one is fantastic!! Definitely have to make this one!
Love the block! I like 5″ charm packs. That way, you get a little bit of everything!

Beautiful block! I love the blues and the secondary pattern that emerges.
I love this block in blue and the pattern formed with a quilt of them is lovely!
Fantastic block and love the secondary pattern in it and your fabric combo.I am a lover of stars blocks so you touch my heart.
Such a simply sweet block with many possibilities!
Love the block and thanks for the hint of using greyscale to see the depth of fabric colors. This is so helpful:)
Great block I think it would be very versatile.
I prefer yardage, but I’ve been known to buy a FQ bundle from time to time!
What a unique block and done in one of my favorite colors–blues–
love and laughter,di
I love the dimension that this quilt has. And I appreciate hearing your thought process on your final color selection. Beautiful design, as always…:).
I like your block and think it would look great in batiks. I prefer yardage and fat quarters when I am adding to my stash.
This is a fun block! I love the stars where the points cross each other – that half-QST/half-HST block. It makes a great secondary pattern that looks like butterflies crossing the quilt when it’s put together!
I buy a lot of fat quarters.
The blues you chose are so soothing. Don’t really buy precuts, but when I do, i go to fat quarters.
Really great block, my favorite pre-cut has become the jelly roll!
I’ve got a bundle of fat quarters I purchased and now I can’t decide what to do with them. Maybe this book would help me decide.
What a fun block! Thank you so much for sharing your talents.
Fun block–love how it looks in the quilt! I always go for the fat quarter bundles–more is better!
Great block! I love the ones that have a potential for secondary patterns when put together…and this one is very interesting. Congrats!
Awesome block! I have used a lot of layer cakes for quick quilt gifts but I think fat quarter bundles are my new favorite. Thank you for the sweet giveaway!
Great block. I always enjoy a secondary pattern. And the blues are gorgeous.
I buy a lot of 1/4 & 1/2 yard pieces and I cut and purchase lots of 5″ charms. I am making several pixelated heart quilts for gifts and need lots of 5″ charms. I also like jelly roll strips for my many scrap quilt projects.
