Welcome! I have been anticipating my stop on Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Blog Tour and I am so glad you here today. If you are new to my blog, my name is Yvonne and you can read a little bit about me here.
I am so honored that my block, Radiating Star, is included in this issue of 100 Blocks along with so many other designers I admire.
Once again I took an opportunity to play with a feeling of depth in this design by using different values of fabric. I used Modern Solids by Denyse Schmidt for Free Spirit, and to help me determine the fabric I wanted to use, I took of a photo of my initial fabric pull and looked at it in greyscale.
In the end, I decided to use the four solids on the right, leaving out the darkest gray fabric on the left.
What I really love about the Radiating Star block design is the fun secondary pattern that the blocks make when repeated in a quilt top. I got excited about the modern X type lattice that forms behind the stars, and by choosing to have the colors build from light to dark, it feels like the stars are on top and shimmering.

I’m a start block lover. Thanks for another idea!
Love your quilt block. Thanks for the giveaway!
Thank you for your lovely block. I usually like fat quarters.
I love your block! The secondary patterns it creates are fun.
I often purchase charm packs for quick table runners.
I love layer cakes. I get nervous if the precut is too small. Layer cakes give me the illusion that I have extra fabric for my oops factor! I love to use them to high embroider stitching or designs in the middle. I have a layer cake of Kate Spain’s 12 days of Christmas that I just cannot cut LOL! congrats on your honor with the block!
I love that quilt block! Very pretty and I do love how it looks as the pattern is repeated throughout the quilt top. I like fat quarters and layer cakes.
If love to see this with the top start scrappy and a constant background.
Love the block, I think it would translate into a QOV quilt very well!
I like fat quarters the best because you can do so much with them. Thanks.
Very nice block-I think it would be fun to work with different color variations of this block and quilt.
love your block thanks

I love charm packs but can never find original and different patterns for them
I love FQ bundles, but also layer cakes.
Nice block – I’d like to make this with some purples. I like layer cakes and FQ bundles. Thanks!
I’m not normally a blue-lovin’ gal, but Radiating Star in shades of blue is very striking! With many of the blocks, it makes a great-looking quilt!
You always create fun secondary patterns with your blocks. As always, love the blues you selected! I find myself purchasing layer cakes but then struggle to use them.
Great block, Yvonne! I love stars 🙂 I’m not really a precut fan. I prefer to buy yardage, though I do go for fat quarters sometimes.
