The queen for my Stash Bee Hive requested Anna Maria Horner’s Feather Bed block this month. I had made this block back in January, so I felt like I would be able to make 2 blocks for her this month pretty easily.
C+S Basics and a “Splash” of Tula Pink
I wanted to focus in on the fabric that she requested, and started by pulling C+S basics and Tula Pink (sadly lacking) in my stash.
Alison Glass Mercury and Lizzy House Pearl Bracelets
Thankfully her inspiration photos also showed some Alison Glass, so I pulled lots of her Mercury print from my stash with a touch of Lizzy House Perl Bracelets, too.
July Stash Bee Feather Blocks
I clearly still have rainbows on my mind, as it wasn’t even an option NOT to put these bright colors in rainbow order once I had the fabric pull complete. One thing that I forgot about making the feather bed block is that flipping the feather over requires a different angle than when it is right side up. So after cutting the first side and then cutting a second side where the “feathers” did not go in the right direction, I pulled out my seam ripper and just barely eeked out the left hand side for 2 blocks.

The background of this feather is a Crosshatch Sketch in Ivory from Timeless Treasures and is hard to see, but it is a warm neutral and will have more depth when layered with batting.

And the background fabric for the second block is from Amanda Herring’s new line for Riley Blake called Desert Bloom and has fun botanical information. I tried to fussy cut the leaves on the left in particular to pair with the feather.
These were fun to make and remind me that I might want to pull out the bee blocks I received in January and think about putting them together!
I love the Desert Bloom Text print. I sure could use some of it. And your feathers are a delight to the eye.

I recently finished a Feather Bed quilt myself, so these blocks make me smile and remember the particulars of this block as well as the happiness of completing the finished project 🙂 I like your rainbow versions, well done.
I have always loved the AMH feathers. Sadly, I never even thought about using rainbow colors! I love how bright and bold they are!

I love everything about these two bee blocks. I’m having a love affair with background fabrics with writing on them.
