I live in California, at the very southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and the mountain town that I live in is affectionately known as “The Land of Four Seasons”. My husband and I look forward to the winter snow, and my husband has been known to capture and photograph snowflakes using a chilled microscope, macroscopic photography, and a lot of patience. Inspired by the beautiful snowflakes he has photographed, I wanted to create a snowflake quilt design that would keep me warm on the cold winter nights using techniques that would keep the quilt accessible to all levels of quilters.
The FREE Snowflake Shimmer Quilt Along will yield a 72 ½ʺ x 88 ½ʺ lap size quilt top. The quilt along will NOT be a mystery quilt, and I will be unveiling the design along with the first set of instructions on July 1st!

This sounds like a great way to stay cool during the hot summer months. 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing your design and the quilt we’ll be making!
Yeah Yvonne: I’m looking forward to doing this quilt along with you….and have my eye on some fabric already….it’s going to be a really hot and humid summer here this year so maybe sewing some snowflakes will help to cool things down.
Whoops! That’s supposed to say Yay! Like Hurray!
Sounds fun. Can’t wait to see what you have for us to work on 🙂
Looking forward to it!
I’m excited to see the quilt! The snowflake theme has me very interested.! A free quilt along doesn’t happen often!!
Oooh! I told myself that I wouldn’t be participating in any QALs this year, but I might have to break that rule. Can’t wait to see your reveal on July 1st!
This is really exciting Yvonne! Snowflakes are endlessly fascinating and I’m looking forward to seeing how you’ve translated them into a quilt design. I know it will be wonderful! I’m having a hard time not shopping for fabric yet, LOL.
can’t wait to see
Can’t wait to see!!
Sounds interesting Yvonne, I will have to check back once the QAL is live. What a wonderful thought to find inspiration in a hobby that your husband has.
I’m looking forward to this project. You have such generous and supportive sponsors. Can’t wait to see how it will look.
What fun, Yvonne! You’ve definitely got my attention 🙂
Will this QAL be beginner friendly? I haven’t learned (or even attempted) sewing any type of curves. Otherwise this sound like a lot of fun.

I am so excited for the start of your quilt along!!
Count me in! I can’t resist a good QAL and I don’t have any winter themed quilts so this will be perfect!!
Sounds great Yvonne. Count me in!! Really looking forward to seeing the snowflakes and would live to see some of your husband’s photogrpahy!
Can’t wait to see what you are up to…sounds fun!
I am really looking forward to this quilt along! Thank you for doing all of the hard work in designing, prepping the face book area and well anything and everything that goes along with hosting a quilt along! I am already trying to guess at what fabrics I will be using; of course, it is useless with having nothing to go on. LOL. Until then, I will continue to read your blog posts and see what other awesome things you are doing! Have a fantastic creative day!
I will definitely be joining you!! Sounds like fun.
Super excited to sew along!
Sounds exciting! Looking forward to seeing more!
OOOh, so tempted. Small matter of a wedding quilt needing finished. First anniversary present perhaps? Maybe I could multi task and then play catch up.
given this ample consideration. I’m in
Sounds like a great way to add some chill to the summer months.
Hi! I already love this! How exciting that your fb is taking microscopic photos from snowflakes! I really want to join this, but summer is grazy busy time here, so if I can’t sew at least I shall enjoy following you and others. x Teje
Making this quilt will remind me of the 23 years I spent living and loving Colorado. Thanks you!
Snow in July! Sounds like fun! I plan to be there 🙂
What a great line up. I’m anxious to see the design evolve. Now, whether I can actually join you is questionable as I’m moving June 28th or so. Studio will be packed for at least the first week or two. I can play catch up though!
That sounds really neat! (I didn’t know it was possible to photograph snowflakes like that.)
I was wondering where your post is when I noticed is says JULY :-)))
WOW! Looking forward to this one-beautiful snowflake pics!
I know I’m not going to manage to join in but I am looking forward to following along with this one, I love snowflakes!
