Teeny Tiny Mermaid & Giveaway Winner

MMMiniMiniQuiltChallenge

I am excited to share with you about the Make Modern mini mini (#MMminimini) challenge. If you see the hashtag and are worried this is an Instagram only giveaway, do not fear! You can also participate and enter through the Make Modern Facebook page!

It’s quite simple to play along.

  1. Make a mini mini quilt (no larger than 6″ square)
  2. Share a photo of your finished quilt on Instagram with the hashtag #MMminimini and tag us @makemodernmagazine
  3. Repeat from step 1. as many times as you like before 20 June 2016.

Don’t have Instagram? Never fear – you may enter via Facebook page too. Share a photo of your quilt on our Make Modern page under the original challenge announcement.

Need more incentive? We have over 30 prizes worth over $1000 including fabric, fabric and more fabric, patterns from some of our favourite makers, quilting for an entire quilt by a very special longarmer!, gift vouchers, WEFTY needles, hexagon fussy cutters and other notions, a 2017 Quilter’s Planner kit, and subscriptions to Make Modern!

In fact, I love mini mini quilts and this community so much that I am even participating as a sponsor of the event!

And to inspire you to greater mini mini quilt making heights, I want to highlight my 5th May is for Makers purchase: the Teeny Tiny Mermaid paper pieced pattern by Amanda @What The Bobbin. (Sidebar: can you believe that 3 of my 5 May is for Makers purchases were paper pieced patterns AND that I have already sewn up projects for those 3 purchases? It blows my mind. But I digress). Amanda’s cute and clever pattern makes a block that finishes at 4-inches square, which means that this Teeny Tiny Mermaid mini mini quilt finished at 4.5-inches square.

I thought a simple organic wavy line would be a good compliment and finishing touch for the mini, and with the bulk of some of the seams, my “organic” lines are not as smooth or flowing as I had envisioned them to be, but overall I think the effect of this mini is rather cute and fun!

I took the mermaid around the house, and I think she looks at home here in the Great Barrier Reef (a photograph my husband, Michael Fuchs, took).

How amazingly cute is she?! I was quite downcast thinking I couldn’t participate in this mini mini challenge(due to packing/moving) when my wonderful husband noticed the ending date and assured me I would have PLENTY of time to make one “on the other side” 🙂 Phew! 🙂

I love this tiny mermaid! The quilting totally gives the impression she is under water. I should totally make one too, it’s such a fun little pattern.

  11. Good Morning Yvonne! Your Mermaid is adorable and I think that your wavy line quilting is wonderful! I have not made a Mini Mini quilt yet, but several years ago on my blog I hosted a Postcard Exchange and creating the post cards was challenging and exciting. So, I do believe I will participate and discover once again the new and fun techniques in creating an original. Thank You for sharing and always being a “Cheer Leader” of mine for each of your special encouraging thoughts. Have a fantastic creative day!
