My Quilts
I was extremely lucky to have 2 quilts on display at QuiltCon 2016: Triangle Transparency and Sunburst. I am looking forward to sharing more about Sunburst, but that post will have to wait for another day. My quilts arrived home safe and sound on Tuesday, and included were the description sheets and judging forms for each quilt.
Triangle Transparency hung in the Piecing category, which was sponsored by Aurifil.
Sunburst hung in the Minimalist Design Category.
One of the features of the quilt that has not been shared before but that you can see in the image above is the binding for the quilt. I really love that detail.
The minimalist design category was sponsored by Quiltmania.
Getting to see my quilts hanging in the show, next to so many other fabulous quilts and quilters that I admire was a wonderful experience. I don’t know if I will get quilts juried in again (hey, you never know!), so I tried to enjoy and savor the experience.
I am glad my quilts are home; time to consider what to do with them next!
QuiltCon Quilts
In order to keep my QuiltCon wrap up posts from stretching out for a week, I am also going to present a few other details about the quilts and QuiltCon here. At the awards ceremony, prior to announcing the winning quilts, Jacquie Gering and the Modern Quilt Guild presented some statistics for QuiltCon 2016 that I found very interesting.
I was proud to be one of the 702 individual members attending the show.
I was at the awards ceremony to support my friend Renee @Quilts of a Feather. Her quilting work on the Albuquerque Modern Quilt Guild banner won the Best Machine Quilting, Frameless award (she quilts on her domestic Janome)! The award was sponsored by Babylock, and here is Renee up on stage as the audience got to cheer for her awesome accomplishment.
Of course I could not wait to photograph Renee next to her quilt, hanging front and center at the show! Also, check out the size of that ribbon! <3
Renee’s quilt hung right beside the Best Machine Quilting on a Frame quilt, which went to Molli Sparkles‘ No Value Does Not Equal Free quilt.
Of course I had to get a photo of the two of them together!
Walking the show, it was a delight to recognize the hard work and beautiful efforts of so many of the online community. Instead of focusing on my favorites, I thought I would focus on the photos I was able to take of the artists with their quilts. <3

Outtake
Renee and I visited with Jess @Quilty Habit‘s quilt Home. There was a white glove nearby, so this is us “behaving”.
Great post. Loved seeing the quilts and their makers. Regarding your wonderful quilts I revisited from your September post the judges’ comments for Triangle Transparency when you submitted it to your local fair. They make an interesting comparison! The blog comments about traditional quilts being judged against modern from a different judging perspective hold very true. In the UK I’ve just discovered that our major national quilt show, the Festival of Quilts, will this year for the first time have a modern category. Just the one, no subdivision of that category, but it’s a start!
Hi Yvonne,
I’m from Germany, but entered the giveaway, because a good friend of mine is living in the USA, so there will be a shipping adress in the US. I hope, that will be fine – if I will win. 😉
Thank you for the fantastic pictures! I really love your quilts, especially the “green” one.
Greetings, Rike
I went to QuiltCon in 2015 and was completely overwhelmed by the beauty and talent of the quilts on display, and can see this year was no different! Congratulations on having not one but two of your beautiful creations in the show and thank you for sharing all this wonderful inspiration!
Your quilts were beautiful. If someone asked me if I had any inteest in transparency quilts, I’d say no. Yet I really like both quilts and would love to have a home where I could display them. Thank you for sharing the comments from the judges. I belong to two guilds and one of them hires a judge to judge the quilts for any members who submit them for judging. Both times I learned something, something I thought was good was reinforced as being good, the judge mentioned something I hadn’t thought of, and a weak area was noted.
Congratulations, Yvonne. Your quilts are beautiful and the comments are wonderful. What a great experience you’ve had.
Congratulations on having your quilts on display – they are fabulous, and I remember your Triangle Transparency from the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, one of my favorites! Love the look of the layers created just through color value. Wonderful pictures – thanks for taking us with you!
Looks like you had a wonderful time~fun for me to look at quilts and think “I know her/him” due to blogs I read 🙂 Happy for you, Renee & Molli!
Lovely post. Thanks so much for sharing!
Congratulations! It looks like it was a great time. Thanks for sharing some of the quilts.
How fun! I’m sure it was crazy at times! I love seeing many of the quilts I have admired for so long. Maybe I’ll enter one day!
Thank you for sharing some of your pictures. Looks like you enjoyed your time ar QuiltCon. Thank you for taking a picture of Urban Squirrels for Lorna, SewFreshQuilts.
I love your post – it makes me feel like I was there with y’all for just a few minutes 🙂 So envious but also excited that you got to celebrate such a big Quiltcon year for yourself! Congrats Yvonne!!!
I am enjoying seeing quiltcon through your eyes. Also, I love all the details on sunburst! The binding, the quilting, it’s really neat to look at it all and see how it works together!
Good Morning Yvonne! I truly enjoyed being able to see QuiltCon with you. It always fascinates me browsing the thousands of individual quilts; each so unique and a personal part of the creator. Each detail carries a stitch in time of that persons journey it is all such a fascinating and beautiful story. I truly find both of your quilts are magnificent. Thank you for sharing and have a fantastic creative day!
I loved seeing both of your quilts in person! The straight line quilting on the triangle transparency quilt is amazing! I know I get kind of cranky and judgemental of SLQ sometimes, but I can’t imagine the quilts you got into QuiltCon with any other kind of quilting. I love that you know when SLQ is right for a quilt and you dive in, the results are fantastic! I had so much fun hanging out with you over the weekend, I’m so glad we spent more time together than last year.
Love your quilts! I’m a fan of transparency. Wish I could have seen them in person.
Interesting to see the “+” marks on your judging sheet. Mine had none of those, just a few positive comments, so I was wondering how they scored the “judging considerations.”
Thank you for sharing your photos- and your judging sheets! And I LOVE that binding on sunburst!
Wow
A great experience for you and very positive feedback on your own quilts
I love particularly cassandras sum of its parts quilt . Show stopping
Thanks for sharing the judging sheets, I’ve always wondered what they say when they judge quilts. And how cool that you got to get pics with your quilts, as well as so many other people with their creations! And you got to meet Molli, how awesome! 😀 Thanks for sharing your pics!
I think the best part of QuiltCon is seeing the quilts and meeting the people. Especially meeting virtual people in real life. Thanks for sharing your quilts as well as some of the others with their makers.
How neat to have pics taken of you with your quilts! I liked seeing what the judges had to say, it was interesting as I have never entered a quilt in competion.
Great post, I love seeing your quilts are learning the fun facts about the quiltcon attendees. Your picture of Sunburst really shows your gradient border well!
I loved seeing your quilts in person. Because I’d seen them on your blog, it was instant recognition when I saw them hanging. Your work is so beautiful. The transparency technique is one I’d love to try. QuiltCon was so inspiring. Thanks for sharing “inside” information. It is fun to see your pictures and to celebrate with you and your friends.
Looks like you had a blast! I love both of your entries how you work with gradients of color is spot on. Nice job on both, and I cannot wait to see what you enter for next year. It’s cool to see all those faces behind the blogs.
This is an awesome post Yvonne. It’s so interesting and I’m happy that you shared pics of the makers with their quilts, including Cassandra!
I loved seeing these pictures of the show. Great idea to include the ones with the artists. 🙂 And it is so exciting for Renee!
Thanks for sharing all of your QuiltCon experiences with us, especially for those who couldn’t be there. It’s the next best thing!
It is so competitive to get quilts accepted into the show that to have TWO in is a real achievement. Well done!.
Isn’t Renee a clever duck! Did she win a Babylock? Those things are amazing.
It is silly, but I like the photo of Renee and Molli together simply because of the way it shows people who share a common interest but live far, far away from each other in the same space, just hanging out and swapping notes.
Why no West Virginia?!
I love your transparency quilts. They are striking!
Fabulous work – thanks for sharing. Delighted to be able to follow your take on the exhibition! Looks like lots of fun!
Great post for someone not there! And what an amazing experience it must have been for you to be there with your quilts in the show, and with friends doing so well too.
