Last May, during one of my Quilt Design A Day (QDAD) kicks (I go through spurts of doing QDAD once a day), the inspiration image was an underwater photograph looking up at a scuba diver into the sun, showcasing streaks of sunlight sometimes captured in underwater photography. I love the water, my favorite color is blue, and I think you all know at this point that I can not seem to resist playing with transparency in my designs. The inspiration photo and color palette had all of the things I love: water and rich, tonal blues. I started playing with transparency ideas, and the design for Sunburst was born.
In September, I submitted Sunburst for consideration in the QuiltCon Magazine, and I was thrilled and excited when it was accepted. A few weeks ago I was honored to learn that Sunburst and a beautiful quilt made by Silvia @A Stranger View were being considered as options for the cover for the 2016 QuiltCon Magazine cover. And then I received some very exciting news earlier this week: Sunburst was selected for the cover of the 2016 QuiltCon Magazine.
The 2016 QuiltCon Magazine will be on newstands for purchase beginning March 1st, and I will share the online store link with you when it is available. For those of you attending QuiltCon, I believe you will be able to purchase the magazine there in person.
I was so excited to have Sunburst be my first quilt pattern published in a magazine, and I am stunned that it also made the cover. Thank you so much to everyone who voted.
I cannot wait to see Sunburst on display at QuiltCon in Pasadena in just a few more weeks!
Congratulations, Im sure its just the beginning of wonderful things for 2016 🙂

Bravo! that is stunning and so very very deserving of the cover!
Big congrats to you! It truly is beautiful!
Congratulations! It’s an honor that you truly deserve!
It’s absolutely beautiful. Question though. Are corrections to the pattern in the magazine available? The yardages required and the cutting chart are off. Also, the Kona colors listed are shades of aquamarine but the photo is more purply blue. I’m still making this one. My best friend, a non-quilter, saw the magazine and fell in love with it. This will be her Christmas gift. Thank you for the inspiration!
