As I was adding the Nautical Mini Quilt tutorial link to my Tutorials page yesterday, I noted that the format I had been using was starting to be problematic. The page has filled up and it was hard to find content on the long, scrolling page.
I counted up, and I currently have 45 tutorials, quilt and block patterns, tips, and other free advice posts available on my Tutorials page! In hopes of simplifying a long list into something more user friendly, I spent some time on Sunday afternoon trying to organize the content together. So when you visit my Tutorials page (link also above in my menu bar), you won’t see a long list like this anymore. Instead, now there are more cohesive groupings of content. There are still images and teaser views of what you will find in each tutorial or tip, but to access the blog post, click on the linked text under each photo collage. For example:
Tips
Tips for Squaring a Quilt
Tip for Pressing Seams Open
Tip for Handling Large Yardage
I hope the new format makes it easier to navigate my continually growing list of tips, tutorials, and free patterns. And special thanks to Stephanie @Late Night Quilter for hosting the Tips and Tutorials Tuesdays link party this year which really prompted me to start cultivating this kind of content on my blog.
I spent some time updating my About page yesterday, too. It seems hard to believe that my blog is almost 2 years old! I am proud of some of my blogging and quilting accomplishments and figured it was time to add a bit of resume material to my site as well.
I don’t know if it is the holiday season, planning for 2016 (which I am starting to do), or the fact that I was under the weather with a cold this weekend that had me wanting to spend some time updating my website, but I hope you can appreciate some of the changes. 🙂
Wow, Yvonne, the tutorials page looks fantastic and your new about me and picture are great! Thank you for all that you do! Your site is such a great resource!
The redesigned tutorials page is great, very organized and concise!
I love the look of the redesigned tutorials page, it is easier to get around.
I thought your tutorials were easy to navigate before but I’m loving the new format. I hope you’re feeling better today. Love your site.
This is what I need to do with my much smaller tutorial page! It looks great!!
Great new format! It’s a lot of work to update a blog page, but yours turned out great. I like your new “About Me” text and photo, too. I hope the blog and all that goes with it – community, designing, etc. – remain satisfying for you.
Yvonne, I am not sure if it is just me…but I could not get anything but the picture to come up and open when I opened up a whole new blog page, but when I clicked on this lead here it worked. Most likely it is just me, I really have this things with computers just not working for me or doing strange things, I am being serious. Then will hand the lap top over to hubby and he just does a click and looks at me like I am some creature from outer space and smiles at me and says it is all fixed once again. LOL. I wanted to also inform you that recently I did get the Carpenters Square and will begin using it later on today on a table runner after it is quilter and needs to be squared up! Even before I use it, It is an Excellent Tip! Thank You for sharing and I sure hope that you are feeling better! Have a wonderful creative day!
Yvonne, your tutorial page (looks and works great) so clearly demonstrates how generous you are with your work. Just look at all the beautiful quilts and skills you share with all of us! And–1) Love the new haircut! and 2) what are you up to in that plane?/helicopter? Looks like something fun 🙂
Forty Five tutorials! Wow! When the new year comes, I’m going to have to make some time to explore your Tutorial page and read more of them. You made it very easy to navigate. You have so many practical and helpful things there, as well as some wonderful patterns! I hope you know how much all your care and hard work is appreciated by the online quilting community!
I too am going to have to spend some time in your new Tutorials area, so easy to navigate
thanks
Gayle Z
It looks great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is so funny–I *just* did a reformatting of my tips and tutorials page over the weekend! Although I only had a few minutes, so it is only preliminary and still needs work. But grouping them definitely makes navigation easier. I will have to check yours out in more detail. I wish we could have a clickable table of contents that would jump straight to the photo and link. Oh well. Yay organization!
Everything looks fantastic! Your blog is such a great resource for tips and inspiration!
Great look, use a lot of your tips. Thanks
Well done on making stuff easier to find. I adore logical organisation.
My tips and tutes page’s problem is that I agonise over whether a post contains a real tip or is just more of my random mutterings. 🙁 Yours are more clear-cut!
it looks awesome, very user friendly.
Your format looks great. I tried putting three pictures across in Blogger and couldn’t get it to work, but I’d like to do something similar sometime.
It looks great, really organised. And that’s a whole lot of tutorials, tips etc!
