On Monday, I started quilting the Red Herring quilt. I have known all along that I wanted to go with a very dense matchstick quilting for it, and I am over halfway done with the quilting. I am super excited and pleased with how it is coming together!

Over the row with the Red Herring arrow, I blended in and quilted using 50wt Aurifil #2460 (Dark Carmine Red). Otherwise, I am using 50wt Aurifil #5005 (Bright Turquoise).

I enjoyed blending the red in and out of the quilt. I am itching to get this finished so that I can show off the full effect to you!

The quilting is very organic and not perfectly spaced… and the texture is so fun to run my hands over!

Yes, that’s a lot of photos… but it’s also a lot of quilting! As I was working my way along, I realized that I was going to need another large spool of thread to finish the quilt, so I placed an order. And then I found one shade lighter (50wt Aurifil #5006, Light Turquoise) in my stash, so I changed to using the lighter 5006 in the bobbin and kept 5005 for the quilt top. Hopefully I can make a Friday Finish with the quilt this week. Stay tuned!

Linking up with WIP Wednesday and Let’s Bee Social to see what everyone else is working on this week!

  1. I wish I could share what I’ve been working on this week! I’ve been sewing all day every day this week with dense quilting. It’s a lot of work, but like you say, great effect! Red Herring is looking fabulous!

Yvonne, this looks amazing! The red is a perfect touch. Can’t wait to see. It’s hard to secret sew.

Oooh I love the lines of red quilting! I can’t wait to see the whole quilt.

  4. Yvonne, just from the pictures on todays post, I am so looking forward to being able to see the whole quilt quilted. Usually, I do not like the dense stitching. Yet, seeing it on the photos today it looks spectacular! Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful creative day!

Your last photo of the spool of thread has a great background of the quilt with the part that’s quilted vs. the unquilted part. I think it is so cool. What size spools of thread are you using? Love all the photos.

  6. Oh wow, that is gorgeous matchstick – and I love the way are using both blue and red thread – it looks great!

The quilting is looking great on this quilt Yvonne. I like how you found a solution to running out of thread in your thread Stash. It’s such a beautiful post with all the photos of the quilt. I love all that blue thread.

It looks so neat. I bet you have been getting some exercise walking back and forth with that dense quilting.

  9. That’s a lot of quilting. Can’t wait to see it finished. I love how you added a little bit of red thread.

  10. How fun to do red in the one section and gradually weave it in before/after that arrow. Can’t wait to see the finished project!

That is a lot of quilting, I love the red thread mixed in there. And I’m going to have to stay up later now to get completely up to date and see if you finished it!

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
