Kaja @Sew Slowly loves improvisational sewing, so it came as no large surprise when she left her stash bee block tutorial for October fairly widely open for interpretation. I’ll lead with where I ended up…
Don’t those late fall roses from my yard that my husband cut me look so perfect with the block? This block ended up 12.5-inches tall by 12-inches wide. I hope it is close enough to her requested color palette.
I will also be sending along extra fabric to help her “blend” our blocks together.
Kaja wants to know what quilters (with or without blogs) do you most admire and draw inspiration from? I have to admit that I worry about making a list because I follow a large selection of blogs and people on IG from whom I definitely draw inspiration, and I don’t want to leave anyone out. I also know that when I am personally really drawn to a certain style, I try to *not* follow someone else who might cause me to become a copy cat. It’s a hard balance, and this feels like a cop out and complete non-answer.

In other news, I am really excited to announce the re-launch of my husband’s website, Michael Fuchs Photography. I have been working hard behind the scenes for a few weeks to update my husband’s website and weekly email distribution group. I am super excited to say that Michael Fuchs Photography is updated, we have launched the update to his followers, and I hope you check it out and consider becoming an email subscriber (link on the left hand sidebar of his webpage).
Your block looks fabulous! As for a list of where you get your inspiration, I don’t know if I could do that either, it would take weeks and it would be changing constantly 🙂
Congrats on the update of your husband’s web site! His photography is breathtaking! The site looks great 🙂
Of course I subscribed to your husband’s photography – I’m so glad you shared the link. It is amazing, a joy to discover – do you travel with him to some of these amazing places? You both seem so fearless in the pursuit of your visions and so talented 🙂
Your block looks great. I remember those little birds. Good luck with your husband’s new website.
I love the block – especially the little birds; I like to sneak a bird fabric into most of my quilts!
What a fun block! I love your roses, we have some that looks just like that and smell amazing. That bush doesn’t bloom as much as some of the other bushes though, so it’s nice to imagine your photo smells as nice as I think it should.
Books, magazines, blogs, nature… I’ll be out walking with the dogs and have to snap a picture of the colors in the sky, tree line and meadow–it changes daily! In the woods, there are pools of water with leaves… summer, spring and fall and ice in winter. I’ll buy patterns and books, but they seldom look like the original; I like to put my spin on things. I like the “new” improv–my mom has been doing that for years! Your Michael’s photography is breathtaking!
The rose is a great pop of color beside that block! Also, love that picture. It’s amazing! Going to check out his website. Congrats! I bet it was a lot of work!
great block Yvonne, love your interpretation
i love that purple section near the middle of the block, and the deeper blues as well. Good luck to your husbands business.
Nice block. I think I need to get my hubby to plant some roses. He told me I could trade the peonies for roses any time. Exciting news about your husband’s website. I have loved his pictures that I have seen before.
Great block! I am off to sign up for your husband’s mailing list 🙂
I initially thought the rose had been part of the design process with your block, it really does look perfect with it. Your husband’s photography is amazing and I think it’s so lovely that you’ve been able to help him with his website and getting relaunched, just as he always seems to take an active and really supportive role with your quilting. You clearly are a team.
