I was contacted by the woman I made the Out of the Woods quilt for a few weeks ago, and she has commissioned me to make several more items for her (a repeat customer – yay!). I made 32 bandanas for her, and I will be working on an oversized baby quilt for her using these fabrics:
Left to Right: Joel Dewberry Bungalow Swallow Study Emerald, Joel Dewberry Fabric Aviary 2 Sparrows Vintage Yellow, Tula Pink Bumble Cotton Candy Cloud Jade, Robert Kaufman Urban Zoology Mini Birds Bermuda, Joel Dewberry Aviary 2 Woodgrain Bark Brown
The goal was to find a cohesive green, yellow, cream/brown grouping of fabrics with a bird theme. I personally love how the Tula Pink Bumble print also has hot air balloons and airplanes.
The plan is to use Elizabeth Hartman’s New Wave pattern with the brown Woodgrain print as the sashing and binding and the Swallow Study in Emerald as one of the prints for the front as well as the backing.
I believe I have mentioned several times that my mother-in-law occasionally supplies me with fabric. She lives in a large metropolitan city, and she goes to yard and estate sales every weekend. When she comes across fabric for a good deal, she buys it for me and then lets me pick through her finds on my next visit.
These are the fabric that I chose to bring home last weekend. I really love the African animal scene and plan to use that print for the back of a baby quilt.
Everything else just seemed like it could be absorbed by my stash would compliment my existing stash. 🙂
Linking up to Sunday Stash.
Excellent fabric choices! I have been extremely lucky with garage sale fabric finds. Just a few weekends ago, hubby and I stopped at a garage sale, we all began talking (no one else was there) and it did not take but a few minutes and the wonderful couple were just adding fabrics, yarns, batting and sewing accessories into totes. We left with close to 500 dollars worth of items for under $20. It was amazing good quality items and what the couple revealed was that her mother/self had been sewing together for many years and after her mother had passed away, she just could not get into sewing. She was excited and thrilled that I love to quilt and to share…so she wanted it to go to a person who would really love it and use it. Sorry, I get carried away with excitement sharing wonderful moments like this. Have a great time sewing and creating for your client and yourself! Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful creative day!
Wonderful fabric choices. I can see I am going to have to start going to yard sales. What great finds, lucky you.
Congrats on the repeat customer! 🙂 The fabrics you chose are going to look fabulous with the New Wave pattern. Have you seen Tula’s new wide back fabric? Birds. Big polka dots. Fabulous 🙂
I made my first New Wave quilt when the pattern was first released on her website, before she started printing and selling them – love that pattern. Have made about 5 more since. So envious of your fabric finds, that batik would be at the very top of my list!
I think that New Wave will be perfect for the baby birds bundle. Those fabrics are much too cute to be cut up into tiny little pieces. 🙂
Such great fabrics. You MIL has a wonderful eye and is so generous. I’ve bought fabric at a yard sale once in a while and there can be really great deals. Looking forward to seeing the baby quilt when you have it done.
That wood grain is going to make a great sashing for that pattern. And those fabrics are a great pull, nice mix with a cohesive color scheme.
Love repeat customers!! The fabric choice is beautiful! The aqua and yellow are a knockout together! Does your mom sew as much as you do?
Guess sewing all those bandanas paid off! Love that Joel Dewberry fabric!
I love your bird-themed fabric pull. I’m especially drawn to the second fabric from the left – you don’t see too many fabrics with a yellow and purple colour palette, but in this print it works so beautifully. The wood grain sashing to tie it all together is perfection!
Excellent fabric choices. I like how you were able to find a bunch of fabrics that only coordinated with the theme but also the colors.
I love the hot air balloon fabric with those mini birds. And those are some great garage sale finds. That never happens to me. Then again, I’d have to go to garage sales first.
Lurrrving the birds
This will make s gorgeous quilt
I particularly like the two Joel Dewberry prints on the left.
I think I need to make time to lurk around garage sales if your MIL can find such fun fabrics that way.
Especially love the swallow prints, I have a big soft spot for swallows, we have them nesting around the house and the first swallow sighting of the year is a special thing and a promise of the Summer to come. Your Mum is really good at finding interesting prints too, very handy!
