I am super excited to be able to share with you that I designed a block for the Cirrus Solids Block of the Month Challenge, and my block, On a Slope, was selected and featured yesterday for the month of July! I created two different color stories for the block, Ocean and Desert.
The process of designing a quilt block for the challenge took quite a bit of time. My goal was to create a fun block to piece that created great secondary patterns. My first few designs made great secondary patterns but had 30+ pieces, so I kept going back to the drawing board (literally) to see if I could come up with something better.
The fun angles and stars that can be made with the On a Slope block finally won me over. To download instructions on how to piece the block, please visit the Cirrus Solids BOM website.
Brilliant Yvonne , I love blocks that are straight lines and squares within squares – very contemporary
I love the secondary pattern the block creates.
Congrats Yvonne! What an awesome block!
Yes, that secondary pattern of a star is really strong here. I like this! Congratulations.
Julie
Bold and beautiful. Great design, Yvonne!
You nailed it! What a great block, love the possibilities!
Ooooh I like the block alone, but in a group it does create a great secondary pattern! Congratulations on having your block picked!
This is a fantastic design, congrats!
Nice block! Congrats on being chosen.
oh I like this ALOT. Love the secondary pattern! Congrats! I’m thinking I might be able to adapt it slightly for a bunch of my stashed Polaroid blocks. hmmm…
Congratulations. This is a great block. I really like the secondary design of the star. It can be either very dramatic or very subtle depending on the background fabric.
Congratulations. Really like the block on its own and love the star created on repeat!
Looks great! In the desert color scheme I almost see a secondary (tertiary?) pattern of 4 large petals making flowers. But that could just be the meds I’m on. 🙂
Like, Diana, I saw flowers, too (and I’m not on meds). I’ve been in a mid-century mood lately, and this fits right in. Great block! And the quilting possibilities will be wonderful, too.
That is fabulous. Congrats! I also LOVE the secondary pattern!
Congratulations! So cool!
Congratulations! I can see why they picked your block. What a clever design!
Congratulations!!! Awesome block. And the secondary patterns are fabulous. Give yourself a huge pat on the back.
What a great block. I love it’s wonkiness, when every second block is turned on it’s side.
Showing two colour options is smart – I see different things in each of them! I know they exist in both, but it changes what becomes prominent when the colours and values are changed up. Well done!
Congratulation, Yvonne! It’s a great block, and would look so different if done in prints rather than solids. Very versatile.
Congratulations on the feature! I love how the blocks look together.
Great block!
Neat block! Well done!
This is a truly awesome block, Yvonne! Love the secondary patterns, my eye just flows around on your mock ups – I just love that!! Congrats on having it accepted – but then again, how could they not?!
How cool is this. You are on your way to becoming a pattern-writing megastar of the quilting world!
I can definitely see why your block one, it’s fun, and looks really versatile but simple too.
