At the end of October last year an accident shook my community. I reached out and asked you, my wonderful and generous quilting community, to create blocks for the children most affected. I don’t think I will ever be able to thank you enough for the gift that you have given to me, the kids, and their mother. The last update I shared with you were how the blocks were looking on my design wall.
Miss A and Mr. L have been working hard. They arranged the quilt blocks to their liking and as of Monday afternoon, the quilt blocks are pieced quilt tops! The kids have done an amazing job sewing, and their quarter inch seam allowances are becoming much more consistent. Each quilt is roughly 57 inches by 65 inches, and they are going to be a great snuggle size for the kids.
Both quilts have the names of the children in them, so I have marked over them in these photos to protect their privacy.
The kids want to quilt their quilts on my long arm (awesome!!!). I can’t fit both on my machine at the same time, so I have a few more visits with them, which makes me very happy. It has been a joy working with them and watching their enthusiasm for making their quilts from the blocks you so generously made them. They know stories behind the blocks, and it warms my heart knowing that it means so much to them.
How heart warming a post. It most be a real pleasure watching them as they make the quilts.
What great quilts. I just jumped over to read the previous posts. It was a great idea, and I’m glad so many were able to help make blocks.
I was explaining this project to my husband and even he was impressed. (BTW, the lighthouse in the fourth row rocks! Who made that?)
Those turned out beautifully! It feels so good to give this kind of gift to a kid – I’m always surprised at how much they appreciate it.
This is a wonderful community project and so much support and love!! Great job done by all.
Oh, these are so lovely, Y!
Their quilt tops have turned out beautiful. A great big quilty hug from all over. I’m looking forward to seeing how they quilt their quilts. 🙂 I always love seeing children and youth projects.
They look great! Quilting them on your longarm will be so fun for them!
They both turned out beautifully! Having a master’s degree from a music college, I really love Mr. L’s quilt. Both are going to be cherished by those children for the rest of their lives.
Wow. They are amazing! I bet the kids are having a blast. What a great experience for them to learn how to sew from you. I can’t wait to see how they quilt!
It is so nice to read about projects like this one and it’s even better to be part of it. Thank you!
They look so wonderful! What neat gifts that these two kiddos are going to walk away with. That’s so neat that they want to use the long arm to quilt them themselves too 🙂
What a special thing to do! Their quilts look superb! Pass along to each one that I love the layouts they have chosen and think it is wonderful that they are going to get to learn how to quilt on the long arm! I hope all of you continue to have fun and keep this friendship bond going! Thank you for sharing.
It’s wonderful how all the different blocks look together in each quilt. It’s also wonderful that the kids are working on the quilts. It will make them that much more previoud.
Both quilts look fantastic and I’m pleased to have been a tiny part if it . Well done children and Yvonne x
Beautiful post! Love both quilts and the story behind them. Must be wonderful working with the children. Sewing is such a therapy. Congrats to the three of you!!!
They look amazing, great block placement from both of them! The blocks all work so well together. Look forward to seeing them quilted.
These are brilliant! I love all of this.
Both the tops turned out wonderfully. It’s great that the kids get to take part in the project too.
They both turned out fabulous!! And how exciting that they want to quilt them too!! This community is pretty darned amazing!
Yvonne, you are doing an exceptional thing helping this family. The block layout is very attractive and I love that each sibling is involved in making their quilt. I especially like the music themed quilt, those note blocks are fantastic! Bless you and your readers♡
Yvonne, it’s so wonderful that you’ve been able to help these kids out and show them how much people care. <3
So beautiful!! They really did a fabulous job – as did the quilting community. How fun 🙂
