Another set of friends got married a week and a half ago, so I thought another set of 4 placemats were in order. My friends got married along Lake Tahoe, and the beautiful setting seemed like the perfect inspiration point again.
Diving back into the bundle of Denyse Schmidt solids, I found a lovely grouping that I had a hard time parting with (I love these colors!!!). Following the same “pattern” I made up for the California Sunset Fade Placemats, I paired the Denyse Schmidt solids with Kona Nightfall for the backing and I found a great variegated blue and white striped print to use for the binding.
I quilted the teal / green stripes with 50wt Aurifil 1148 and the blue stripes with 50wt Aurifil 2730, and I kept 50wt 2730 in the bobbin.
The placemats finished at 12-inches tall by 18-inches wide pre-wash and after first wash they shrank down to 11.5-inches tall by 17-inches wide. I also got a bit faster and was able to finish this set of 4 in about 3.5 hours.
These look so beautiful on my table, I might just have to see how much fabric I have left and how many more I can squeak out… 😉
Linking up to Finish it up Friday.
My favourite colours also. Really lovely and what a stunning location for your friends’ wedding!
I can see these being a go-to wedding gift! The colors are so nice and love that they have a connection.
Again, so simple, yet so striking. The blues and greens are fabulous.
Oooh these are pretty! I bet they will love them!
Think I will be “borrowing ” this idea to make myself some place mats
You have me itching to make some placemats now! These are beautiful and use my fave colours. Looks so much like the photo of Lake Tahoe you shared. Your friends will be so pleased!
Soon beautiful! You really captured the colors!
So pretty!!
They truly do reflect the colors of Tahoe. I’m blessed to live 30 minutes away from there.
Perfect colours, they go so well with that beautiful photo.
They look so pretty on your table!
Very pretty! And if you can’t quite manage four placemats from your remaining fabric, maybe a simple table runner would work.
I like these even better than the last set (I must admit that blue is my favorite color). They look so great as a set together.
I likeJan’s idea of a table runner if there’s not enough for more placemats. That color combination is so perfect – definitely capture it for yourself. Even if it’s just a potholder!
The binding is a perfect choice: it ties the other colours together just so.
I know you were inspired by a lake, but I see ocean too. They would be lovely in a beach house.
I’m a huge orange fan but I have to say, I love these ones even more! They absolutely scream Lake Tahoe. I just love the simplicity of the design, along with the straight line quilting and my favorite aspect of these is that striped binding. And if you have enough fabric leftover, I think you need to make some for yourself, since I seem to recall that you have a blue and white kitchen.
Love how the blues in the water of your Lake Tahoe pic match your fabric selections so well. Great gift! Hope you can find some fabric in that stash to make some for yourself!
They remind me of my aurora borealis quilt…simple but hey man, I LOVE the colors, they are happy-making. fun project.
I love, love, love the Tahoe placemats! These are so great. I have a ( Vow Renewal ceremony to go to next weekend, might have to make a set. 🙂
Beautiful gift.
I really like the colour combination, and the simple design and quilting are perfect for everyday use on the table. Great gift idea! I keep thinking I should use striped fabric as binding, but I love it too much to cut it down 🙂
I love your place mats, they inspire me to make some for myself. I shall add them to my ever growing list of “want to makes”! :0) xx
Wow that lake has some beautiful colours in it and those placemats replicate that lake perfectly.
Love seeing these placemats in this color way. What a fabulous gift.
