At the end of April, Stephanie @Late Night Quilter posted a tip about how to recycle used Olfa rotary blades. For the sake of redundancy, I will not republish the details, but needless to say I was greatly intrigued. On May 4th, I shipped off 5 used 60mm Olfa rotary blades and a $29 check and wondered just what was going to happen. Right at 3 weeks later I received a BRAND NEW package of 60mm Olfa rotary blades. I am hooked!!
Knowing that I can recycle my blades and get new blades in return for only $29, I am promising myself to change out my rotary blades much more often. Starting moments after I received this awesome package.
*Note that at this time the company only ships to the US and Canada according to their website.
**Also note that Amy @13Spools has a cheap recommendation for purchasing Olfa blades (amazon.com), but I have to admit that I love the recycling aspect of this option!
Linking up to Sunday Stash.
I just put mine in a special ‘sharps’ container to take to the local doctor or pharmacy for safe disposal. Recycling?! Wow!
How great you can do this, shame about your last sentence though 🙁
This is definitely worth looking into. Thanks for sharing!
I never knew….something to look into for sure!
I was thinking about this last night as I finally changed the blade on my rotary cutter. Thanks for the reminder.
thanks so much for posting. I’ll have to give it a try !

Thanks for the info! Like you, I really love the idea of recycling. I’m gathering up my old blades now to send them off for new ones. P.S. Love your blog!
I would love to recycle like this – shame it’s US only.
I bought the 15 pack of blades from Massdrop last year, thinking I could change my blade once a month for a year and still have some left over. Well… I’ve only used 2 to change my blades once (I have 2 cutters) lol. So it hasn’t made me any better in chafing more regularly! 😉
I should probably change my blade more often and look forward to trying out this recycling once I dull down the ones I have 🙂
Thanks for the reminder about this post. I’ve been saving my old rotary blades for quite some time in case I need to cut paper or something. Wanted to try this myself!
