Repair

Thank you so much for your input last week on how to go about fixing a small tear in a quilt top.

I decided to purchase some Pellon 931TD midweight fusible (one-sided fusible) to slip in under the tear and iron in place. The tear is no longer gaping, and with continued gentle handling, I think it will be OK. For the record, it took me 5 minutes to even find the tear again to make the repair, so I am going to work on getting the quilt submitted to a few shows!

Below are 2 before and after shots side by side. The tear is honestly quite small and hard to find on the quilt; these photographs really exaggerate its size.

It looks great, Yvonne! I watched the comments on your initial post with great interest. I may or may not have dropped a rotary cutter on a quilt. . . They (umm, yeah, more than one) were not show quilts though and I ended up just satin stitching over them – not an option in your situation. Good luck on your submissions!!

I am so glad it worked out for you. I am sure it will fade into your gorgeous quilt. Especially if it took you that long to find it and you knew what you were looking for.

I would venture that there’s no way anyone is going to see that in person. I’m glad you aren’t letting it prevent you from entering shows.

  10. Glad you found a fix and no one will likely ever know 🙂

  11. Glad you found a solution that worked well. I think you’ll be good to go!

  12. Glad you found a solution… and that you had so much trouble even finding it to fix! That bodes well for those careful inspections at quilt shows!

  13. Congrats on a great fix! I had to search the after pics twice to find the tear and even then I’m not sure I did! 🙂 So excited for you to enter the shows!

Thanks for following up on this! Cracks me up that it took you 5 minutes to find the tear. I have a couple tears in my very first quilt that is a every-day used quilt on my couch and I know there are three tears and they’re always right at the edge of my fingertips when I’m under the quilt but nowhere to be found when I have a needle and thread in hand!

  16. Now that is genius! Great thinking and taking a major oops to where did that happen again! Good luck with submitting it to shows 🙂
