Out of the Woods Fabric

Sunday Stash {2/8/2015}

It has been a while since I had a fabric purchase worth blogging about. The first fabric I purchased is for the backing for my Foothills Mystery Quilt (more about the mystery quilt tomorrow). I chose to use Kona Black as the background for the mystery quilt, a handful of yellow prints from my stash as the feature fabrics, and a grey with black and yellow swirl blender to pull it all together. I was pleased to find this fun print that pulls all those colors together to use for the backing at my LQS on Friday afternoon.

I decided to join in on the Elephant Parade QAL hosted by Lorna @Sew Fresh Quilts, so I also picked up a white background fabric, a dark gray, and a light gray to get started on some large elephant blocks. I really like supporting my LQS whenever possible, and I think I am seeing a trend of gray / white / black / yellow in a lot of my recent quilts! (I did not get enough of any of these three cuts to get the fabric information on the selvage.)

In addition, a recent Hawthorne Threads order got delivered on Saturday. I got all the fabric I need to piece together the top for Out of the Woods.

The rest of my Hawthorne Threads order is my fabric selection I plan to use to participate in the Marsala Challenge, hosted by Adrianne @On the Windy Side and Anne @play crafts. I have a vague idea for where I want to go with the challenge quilt. OK, all I have is a name for the quilt, but I have to start somewhere, right? I’ll probably be doing a bit of doodling and sketching to plan it out while I travel for QuiltCon.

  1. I still can’t get over how perfect that fabric for the backing of your Foothills Mystery Quilt is. And that you didn’t find it until after the quilt top was assembled! The selection for your Out of the Woods quilt is simply scrumptious and I can’t wait to see what you have planned for the Marsala challenge. So exciting!

    I know a lot of people aren’t thrilled with the Marsala color, but I love the fabrics you picked, in fact I think I may have to purchase a few of those. No project in mind, I just love that combination.

  6. Your fabric selection for the Marsala challenge may single handedly bring that color into the favorites list of modern quilters around the world!! Pantone should send you a personal thank you. That Alison Glass text print is a favorite of mine. I just ordered 3 more yards because I’m always afraid I’ll run out. I know…I’ve got issues.
