Over the weekend I was able to finish the Groovy Scrap Quilt. I am really happy with how the layout came together. This quilt took 7 hours to complete and my time was broken down as follows:
- Design (putting scraps on design wall): 1 hour
- Piecing: 3.75 hours
- Quilting: 1.5 hours
- Binding: 0.75 hours
The backing is a poppy print that my mother-in-law found at a yard sale for me over the summer. Its colors match perfectly, and I still have almost 4 yards of the fabric left to use in other projects.
I used left over backing / binding fabric from Tessellated Leaves again, making this entire quilt a finish from my stash.
I got it loaded onto my longarm and quilted in 1.5 hours using Aurifil 4650 50wt thread and an all over meandering rounded corner box pattern. The Groovy Scrap Quilt was a fast and fun finish, and I am already itching to work on my next project. I think I will have to resist the urge to start something new and get some work done on the Cocoa Leaf quilt, though.
I took measurements of the quilt along the way noting the shrinkage at each step.
- Flimsy Finish: 40.5 inches wide by 50 inches tall
- After Quilting/Squaring/Binding: 39.5 inches wide by 49 inches tall (~2% shrinkage)
- After First Wash: 38 inches wide by 46.5 inches tall (~7% shrinkage from flimsy)
