Tessellated Leaves - Block 1 of 72
Quilts

Tessellated Leaves {WiP Wednesday}

I finished pre-cutting all my fabric yesterday, and I am giving away the selvage edges from the 36 fabrics in the quilt. So, be sure to go check out my giveaway post and enter to win if you have a use for a bunch of selvages!

I am so excited about this project! This morning, I made the first of the 72 blocks that are going to make up the quilt top.

And here is the block “expanded” out on my design wall with most of the rest of the layout. My design wall is going to be much too small for this massive quilt – the last two rows of squares are missing from the bottom of the quilt, and once I get more of each row pieced, I won’t have room to put a row across my design wall either!. Each block finishes out at 12.5″ square, so the quilt top will be 96.5″ wide by 108.5″ long without the final border. Eep!

It took me 35 minutes to make the first block. I hope to find a rhythm in the piecing and reduce that time a bit. I have a few more blocks to go, so I bet I’ll figure something out! 🙂 Time for another cup of tea and then back to the sewing fun! I can’t wait to see this one come together, although I’m not sure how I’m going to visualize it as it continues to grow – probably back to using my floor for the layout and photography in the short term!

    This is really cool!!! That block is very interesting. You’ve got a lot of work ahead of you, but it’s going to be worth it I bet. I can’t wait to see it finished. Happy piecing!

    Hi! This looks gorgeus! What a colour burst! Great block and I guess those squares are leading you and you use always four of them for one block. Beautiful layout with the colours! x Teje

    I was wondering how you were going to make it and I see now a really clever design and fab, fab fabrics!

  18. I can see how a design wall will be really handy with this project as each block has fabrics/colours that connect it to the next one. It is going to be beautiful. I can see why you are excited.

  19. This is quite the endeavor but it’s going to pay off in the end. Love how you organized all fabric beforehand – didn’t want to comment there and mess things up since I wouldn’t know what to do with selvedges if I actually won.

  20. sally says:

    It’s going to be stunning. Good luck with finding that rhythm!

  21. Love the change of colors in this one and it is going to be exciting watching it grow into something UH-MAZING!

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
