Fall Placemats
2014 Finished Quilts, Quilted Placemats

TGIFF: Fall Placemats

I am really happy to be able to say that I have a finish this week! I was able to complete a set of 6 Fall Placemats. I am thrilled with how they came together, and don’t they look wonderful on a table?

Sticking with the fall theme, I quilted a meandering leaf pattern across the placemats using a variegated orange thread for the top and a variegated green thread for the back.

You might rightly recall that I have been struggling with the free motion quilting capability of my sewing machine and wondering about how I quilted these placemats. I set my needle to the far left, and I only know of one dropped stitch across all the placemats. The stitch regulator struggled a bit more than normal to maintain even stitches, likely due to having the needle offset, but I will accept that as a fair trade for being able to quilt right now.

It feels really good to have a Friday Finish this week! My other projects are large enough that it might be a while before I can say that again.

Perfect quilting for the mats! Do you mark anything beforehand, or do you just do the practice sketches and wing it? I hope you’re able to get to the bottom of the quilting shenanigans, because with all the work you do, you deserve a smoothly running machine!
