I am really happy to be able to say that I have a finish this week! I was able to complete a set of 6 Fall Placemats. I am thrilled with how they came together, and don’t they look wonderful on a table?
Sticking with the fall theme, I quilted a meandering leaf pattern across the placemats using a variegated orange thread for the top and a variegated green thread for the back.
You might rightly recall that I have been struggling with the free motion quilting capability of my sewing machine and wondering about how I quilted these placemats. I set my needle to the far left, and I only know of one dropped stitch across all the placemats. The stitch regulator struggled a bit more than normal to maintain even stitches, likely due to having the needle offset, but I will accept that as a fair trade for being able to quilt right now.
It feels really good to have a Friday Finish this week! My other projects are large enough that it might be a while before I can say that again.

Those are beautiful! And a fast finish! (I love those, especially after a big project!) Well done, Yvonne!
Those turned out lovely!
They look great on table and as I said your quilting is lovely!
Great finish Yvonne. Hope your machine gets fixed soon so you can sew without any frustration.
Love that leaf quilting, Yvonne! What a clever way to finish off these pretty place mats! Your table looks so festive!
Those are so cute!! I love the leaf quilting 🙂
Great placemats! Your fall fabrics really work well and your piecing looks very crisp. I’m glad you were able to figure out a way to make the FMQ work for you. You are a bit braver than I am. Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
These look so good! I love the dark binding and backing. And your leaves look great. I’m glad you could minimize the skipped stitches.
I really like the leaves you quilted; they look so good! The placemats are lovely and look great on your table.
They look fabulous! Love the leaf quilting, it is the perfect touch to these beautiful fall place mats! So glad you were able to figure out something that works for quilting while you are waiting for what will hopefully be a permanent solution 🙂
Perfect quilting for the mats! Do you mark anything beforehand, or do you just do the practice sketches and wing it? I hope you’re able to get to the bottom of the quilting shenanigans, because with all the work you do, you deserve a smoothly running machine!
Awesome, love them.
Truly lovely, the quilting especially. How did you come up with the idea of off-setting your needle?
I knew they’d look good! Your quilting looks great, clever work around, and that backing fabric is beautiful.
Awesome fall placemats they look great!
They look so good altogether on the table, and I love your choice of quilting, perfect.
You tamed that sewing machine! Well done. Love the meandering leaf!
