High Desert Jazz & Blues Festival

There is going to be a really neat free event in Mojave, CA, this Friday night, and Quilting Jetgirl is involved! The Mojave Foundation (a non-profit organization registered in the state of California dedicated to improving quality of life in Mojave, CA, in order to make the community a more attractive place to live and do business) is presenting “The High Desert Jazz & Blues Festival” featuring performers Chaise Lounge and The Lori Andrews JazHarp Quartet.

A little over a week ago, I was contacted by the Community Director for The Mojave Foundation, Marlena. She is working hard to find local artists and businesses who can donate items to The Mojave Foundation for use in a silent auction that will be held during the event (all money raised will benefit The Mojave Foundation). I had met Marlena back in May when there were discussions for this event to be a much larger 3-day festival. At that time I thought I might even try and have several of my quilts on display and sale. For multiple reasons, the event was scaled back, and I am happy to donate one of my pre-made quilts to the event, the Positively Perfect Nap Quilt.

If you live in or near the Antelope Valley, this promises to be a really interesting evening. If you go, keep an eye out for the silent auction (which will include my handmade quilt), Quilting Jetgirl business information, and Quilting Jetgirl business cards! Have you ever donated a quilt to an organization for a silent auction? I am really curious if it will raise as much money as I would have hoped to sell the quilt for.

What a cool thing for you to do Yvonne! I really like your plus quilt, the colors are so nice. It will be interesting to find out how many tickets are sold for it. I love your information display with the QR codes, such a good idea and it will be sure to draw people in. Sounds like a fun time!

Your donation quilt is lovely and I hope it generates lots of money for this organization. And helps you grow your business, too. Have fun at the event!

I have no personal experience with donating quilts but from what I’ve read, the silent auctions for quilts typically bring in a good amount of money – most of the time at or higher than the amount the person would have asked. . . I think it will also depend on the attendance – if there are a lot of people at the silent auction there would be a better chance at a bidding war 😉 The quilt is fabulous and definitely worthy of a bidding war!
