This week I will be working on a set of 6 fall color inspired placemats. About a week ago my friend looked through my fabric stash and selected the fabrics she would like to be used in the placemats. She also brought over a half yard of an additional orange yesterday, so in total I have 4 orange fabrics, 2 green fabrics, and a tan/cream/gold blender fabric to work with.
As you can see in the photo above, I have already used 2 of the colored fabrics to create the initial blocks for the placemat tops. I auditioned several design concepts with a similar color concept in EQ5 and then ran 3 of the ideas by my friends. They selected this HST design:
Doing a bit of quick math, that means I will be making 144 HSTs! Ha! That is exactly the same number as I needed to make for the September instructions for the Foothills Mystery quilt! I love coincidences like that! I will be purposefully making each placemat top unique by fabric placement. IÂ hope to have these done for TGIFF, so I had better go get some sewing done!

Lovely design! Looking forward to seeing the finished project, Yvonne!
I love this plan for placemats and am looking forward to seeing them.
I’m sure they’ll look gorgeous, but I always feel a bit conned when making something like a set of placemats – if I’m doing 144 hsts I feel like I really ought to have a quilt at the end of it! Placemats might be small but they always seem to take lots of time still.
Great looking fabrics and design, you know I love HST 🙂
It may be a lot of HSTs but dang, those are going to be so cute! it’s official now, I’m dubbing you the placemat queen (tiara optional). 🙂
Those are going to look darling. Very fall-like. I can almost smell the pumpkin pie in the oven as I type. Can’t wait to see the finishes.
Nice. I like this color combo and wouldn’t say no to an orange, lol.
These are going to be awesome! Love the color combo. 144 HSTs? You can knock that out in an afternoon… as a matter of fact, I bet they are done already 😉
You’re better than me… I hate hst’s and need to make a bunch for a few of my projects. I feel like I waste so much fabric BC I have to make them so big to start with. I even bought a special ruler but don’t know how to use it. Any helpful advice?
Looking forward to seeing them Yvonne. And thank you for linking up with Monday Makers!
Such beautiful fabrics to use, and a fantastic design to use them in! Lovely!!
