Tessellated Leaves - Design
Quilts

Lots of WiPs

I definitely think of myself as a one project at a time kind of person, and I have found myself with many more projects than I am used to at one time at the moment. Today I want to introduce you to 2 more queen sized quilt projects that I have taken on. The goal is to have both of these completed by January, which I think is doable.

First up is the more secretive of the two projects. I will not be able to post a lot of detail or progress shots of this one until it is gifted, but I will be able to share some sneak peaks along the way. I have been working on this concept for a while, and the last of the fabrics finally arrived at the end of the day yesterday:

Pretty Secretive Quilt - Fabric

Pretty Secretive Quilt – Fabric

The brown fabric in the upper right hand corner will be used as the backing and binding. Thanks again to Jo @ Riddle and Whimsy for letting me de-stash some of her Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander for use in this quilt. I am not usually a fabric pre-washer, but I have the reds in the wash right now to make sure they do not run when I get the quilt finished and washed the first time. I also plan on cutting into the fabrics and starting block construction on this project later this morning. Yay!

And I have another fun queen sized quilt that I am going to be working on. Inspired by the customer’s interest in M.C. Escher and fall colors, I have designed a Tessellated Leaves quilt with a fun ombre / fall color gradient.

You might notice the brown fabric is also going to be used in this quilt as a border. It will be the backing and binding as well. Lots of love for the brown swirl / tree ring pattern right now! This quilt is going to be extra long, and I think I am going to have a lot of HSTs to create for this pattern! I have placed the fabric order for this quilt and will receive the fabric by next Wednesday.

Looking over my list of current WiPs:

  1. Foothills Mystery Quilt (last month of instructions: April 2015)
  2. Cocoa Leaf Drum Lamp Inspired Queen Sized Quilt
  3. Pretty Secretive Queen Sized Quilt
  4. Tessellated Leaves Queen Sized Quilt
  5. Set of 6 Placemats
  6. Lap Quilt?

I will be able to share more about the placemats once a firm design has been selected, and I am pretty sure that the lap quilt ideas I have are going to have to sit on the back burner for a while. I have made some more design progress on the Cocoa Leaf queen sized quilt, and the customer’s have selected the background color they want to use, so I expect I will be making the fabric order for that quilt in the next week or two as well.

Well, no sense in prolonging the work any longer, time to get sewing, right?!? 🙂

Both of these new WIPs are so great! Love the colors of the first, and the leafy tessellation is so cool!

  3. Your fabric pull is scrumptious! That brown tree ring print is really lovely. And that tessellating leaf design is brilliant… I love it! Looks like you will be super busy!

  4. Very pretty! Looking forward to seeing the tessellated leaves progress. I love what you have designed.

  5. sally says:

Your graduated leaf quilt looks like it’s going to be amazing. And they’re all big projects so I reckon you’re going to have to get used to having multiple WIPs on the go for at least a little while!

  6. Oh my,… that tessellated quilt is going to be G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S-! Excited to see the progress on that one. I have no doubt the other will be great as well. Surprisingly… I had to take a break from sewing AGAIN… family came into down and now my entire house has been remodeled (furniture wise) so everything has taken a back burner until it is all completed this weekend.

  7. Rachel says:

I love that tessellated leaves quilt. Stunning! I’m glad you found some of the architextures. I used that same print in orange to back a quilt!

  8. Cheryl says:

Wonderful fabric bundles! I love the tessellated quilt with leaves.

  9. Alice says:

That sounds awesome. You should link it to the Q4 finish along.

  10. I shared this on my face book page. Thanks for the pic. This is really eye catching.

  11. Love the leaves on Tessellated Leaves! It looks just like the lawn underneath our maple tree here in Minnesota. haha
And I know what you mean about multiple projects at once! Your first sentence in this entry really resonates with me right now: “I definitely think of myself as a one project at a time kind of person, and I have found myself with many more projects than I am used to at one time at the moment.” Go, QuiltingJetGirl! You can do it!

  12. Jasmine says:

I have seen the tessellating leaves before, but I love the ombre look you are giving it. And I look forward to your sneak peeks with that beautiful fabric.

  13. Absolutely gorgeous! I do love those colors and the gradation!

  17. I agree with everyone else, the tessellated leaves is stunning! I have a few projects going on now too. I never used to do that. I don’t like things lurking in the back of my mind unfinished. Oh well, one day I will be caught up 🙂

  18. Joanna says:

Oh I love that leaf design and the graduated colours! It’s going to look gorgeous!

I’m glad I was able to help and that it arrived quickly!!

Good luck with your list. Having my list has definitely help me keep track and get some stuff finished !!

  20. Judy says:

Your tessellating leaves design is awesome! Can’t wait to see this one come together!! So cool that Jo had the CF fabric in her stash and was willing to part with it!!

You’ve got a lot going on but I have no doubt you will finish all of these projects ahead of schedule 🙂 Your productivity amazes me! 🙂

  21. Liz says:

These projects look great! The tessellated quilt is pretty cool, looking forward to seeing how it plays out. You should think about the Q4 finish along! Just for finishing these wips you could link up and maybe win some gift certificates for more quilting supplies! It helps motivate me to get through my list (although following along on your posts you seem plenty motivated already!) Good luck for speedy progress!

  22. Ruth says:

Love the gradient! that is a stunner already – can’t wait to see your progress on it!

  23. Vera says:

Your design is looking great! I love ombre and these colors! You go girl!

  24. I love the look of those leaves! They look a little tricky to assemble, so I will be keen to learn whether you have a clever method to avoid complications.
