I have accomplished a few things recently that I haven’t blogged about, so I thought I would just put some odds and ends together today along with my current WiP.
While this is the last thing I finished recently (umm, this morning), it is the project I am the most giddy about. My niece is going to turn 1 year old on September 18th (holy cow, where did a year go!?!?!), and I am super excited to be flying out to visit with my brother, sister-in-law, and niece for her birthday weekend. I whipped up a sweet little simple drawstring bag using some soft flannel fabric to use as a gift bag for her birthday. I plan to buy a few books for her to put in the bag. Not being a mother/parent, any suggestions for good gifts for a 1 year old or for parents of a 1 year old would be welcome!
I also whipped up a second Cocoa Leaf Mini Quilt on Monday. I will be taking these to my customer on Friday, and I am definitely looking forward to where the queen sized quilt design is going to go!
So that leaves me with what is on my design wall staring at me: the Three Flocks backing. Maybe it is because I cut so many HSTs yesterday, but I am finding it hard to work up the energy to finish putting the backing together. Even though I know these HSTs are all pre-trimmed and just needing to be pieced. I will make some progress on it this week… I hope…
Linking up to WiP Wednesday @ Freshly Pieced.
I know you’ll get your quilty energy back soon…..sometimes it just takes a day or two! 🙂 I always seem to lose my uumph when I get to the backing of a quilt but once I get it finished my energy shoots back up and I’m ready to tackle the quilting. Those mini quilts are adorable! I’m sure your niece will love anything you put in her sweet little bag. 🙂
If you are looking for books, I suggest some board books by Sandra Boynton. Her books are so cute and fun to read. If you are looking for a different toy, I love Duplos. Good luck with your backing.
That bag is so cute! Have a fun and safe trip when you go!
Meow! Great fabric on that bag! I love gifting books, but not being a parent myself I unfortunately don’t have any good suggestions for you.
Books are always a good gift! Especially touchy-feely board books for that age. Cars and trucks are great too, they love to push things, and put things in their mouth..so interesting chew toys are good (they kids love the vibrating ones for teething pains). I love those leaves! I hope your client likes them too. The HST are coming together nicely!
I find HST’s hard work too – but they do make up parts of some beautiful designs and I love the colours you have combined for your pattern. My girls enjoyed wooden puzzles when they were one. The needed help putting them together but you can get ones with little knobs on top of the pieces that help develop their fine motor skills for grasping with two fingers (pinching) and then having to place them in the right spot. Have fun visiting 🙂
The 1-year-old will love the bag regardless of what you put in it. Books are always a great gift, and my local bookstore gives great advice to us non-parents.
The bag is just so sweet! You can never go wrong with books! And parents appreciate that it is a quiet toy 😉 haha
The cocoa leaf mini quilts are wonderful, I am excited to see what you come up with for a queen size quilt.
Can’t go wrong with building blocks – love the fabric on the bag and I’m still liking the cocoa leaves – would love to see that in a bed quilt!
I love those cocoa beans! Speaking as a parent, books are always good. And age-appropriate educational toys. I love when toys aren’t just silly trinkets but things children will learn from. 🙂
I really can’t tell you how much I love those leafs that you made! So very beautiful! I am really excited to see the queen size as well, it will be epic!
What a cute kitty bag! Have fun on your visit! I forgot to tell you that I gave your bag to my girl and she has it in preschool 🙂
