I have been getting a lot of requests to make placemats recently. Along with the order for the Beach Themed Round Placemats, I also created and shipped off a set of rectangular purple, gray, and teal placemats.
I made these placemats for a long time friend. We met in middle school when we were always seated alphabetically by last name. I had just moved to town, so as Yvonne Jones, I always sat behind Amanda Jones. We made up a story about how we were twins and our birthday was on April 1st. Despite that, I think we pulled a few legs for a day or two. In college I would drive hours to go back and visit with Amanda on spring break, and I got to meet her boyfriend (and now husband) Dom when they were first dating. The 3 of us had fun in a photo booth.
So, needless to say, I was excited to make these for Amanda, and I really enjoyed making this set of placemats. She wanted to be surprised by the details of her set of placemats, and now that she has received them I am happy to report she likes them and I get to share them here!
The pattern is a slightly modified City Tracks block from the book City Quilts by Cherri House.

love these! color and pattern! i used to think i didn’t like batiks, but i have a very similar one to that teal that i am using A LOT in my gypsy wife quilt…and i just bought a yellow floral one. they were both on clearace, which prompted me to buy them in the first place, but now i really like them. i don’t know why people dislike them so much. i especially like the polka dots on the binding. lucky friend 🙂
I love these placemats. The colors are great and I really like the quilting. You did a great job and your friend is lucky to have them — and you! I’m making placemats – got one done and am dragging my feet on the others. Guess I should get them finished. 🙂
Ooh, I love these colors together! They make such fun, bright placemats!
Those are great colors, and look like an easy project.
Wonderful colors. Beautiful quilting! I’m curious what type of batting you use for placemats.
Those are super adorable!! I love the batik binding…I think I have that print somewhere in my stash, actually! What a sweet gift for your friend 🙂
