Our friends Matt and Delia Kampner are expecting their first child this December. When I heard they were expecting, I got so excited about making them a quilt! They found out in late July that they are having a boy, and Matt, Delia, and I went fabric shopping in mid-August. I had a pattern in mind but ended up modifying my game plan once I had the fabrics.
The parents wanted to look for southwest inspired fabrics to reflect the area we live and where their son will be born. The local quilt shop had a great selection of fabrics, and the backing fabric (also used for the binding) really pulls the whole theme together. Because the fabrics were so cute and had a variety of print sizes, I spent a bit of time putting together a layout to propose to the Kampner’s so they could see what I had in mind before I started cutting fabric!
All in all, I have to say that the actual quilt top came out to look surprisingly like my mock layout!
