I just finished my most recent quilt project – a lap quilt for our cousin Elizabeth. It’s still getting washed as I type this post! I’m excited to be able to deliver it in person next weekend.
I asked Elizabeth what she would like – blue flowers. She also preferred the secondary color to be white. So I collected up a bunch of fabric…
I decided, after much hemming and hawing, to make a 9-patch square quilt, framed by borders. So the next step was to make a lot of 9-patch squares…
I made a few lighter squares as well, but I settled on the ones for the front of the quilt. As always, I had my trusty cozy helper keeping me company…
And pretty quickly, I had the top done…
After laying out the backing (I’ll show it later), I worked to bind the top, batting, and backing together and get the quilting completed…
Once I had the quilting done, I had the binding cut and in place in under a day, and 3 hours later, all the whip-stitching was done and the quilt was complete! I used the lighter 9-patch squares that I did not use on the top of the quilt as part of the backing. I think it contrasts really nicely with the backing material.
